Murfreesboro Central Magnet got the better of the Marshall County Tigers (7-3-1) on the links when they swept a three-team match against MCHS and the Eagleville Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Champions Run Golf Course. After adding up the top four rounds from each team, Murfreesboro Central Magnet posted a team score of 158 over nine holes, while Marshall County and Eagleville both finished with a 166. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes soccer team ran their record to 2-0 on Tuesday by hammering the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 5-0 on Tuesday evening in Lewisburg. Wayne County had thumped MCHS 8-0 in their lone meeting last season, but the Tigerettes turned the tables on the Lady Wildcats in Tuesday's contest and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half before exploding for four goals over the final 40 minutes to cruise to the easy victory. Marshall County controlled the action throughout the match and outshot Wayne County 14-5 overall. Junior midfielder Sophia Raffo scored two goals to lead the Tigerettes's offensive attack, while Emily Spence, Peyton Gevedon, and Abbey Redferrin tallied one goal apiece with Spence and Gevedon each dishing out an assist. Clara Wilson also recorded an assist for MCHS. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs golf teams both padded their win totals by defeating their Fairview counterparts on Tuesday afternoon at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. Taking the four best individual scores from each team, the Bulldogs (5-4) beat the Yellow Jackets 178-184 in the boys match to move back above the .500 mark. more
Aaron Pitts enters his second season as head football coach at Marshall County High School in 2013 and he feels good about the team chemistry and the Tigers' chances of having a solid season and a deep playoff run. "The major difference this year is I have my system in place and the kids know what's expected," said Pitts. "I feel like we have some depth and the competition is good, it always brings out the best. We have a lot of young kids pushing the older kids, who have to come to practice and play hard every day because if you don't, you won't be first on the depth and they have bought into that system." more
Despite turning in one of their better efforts of the season, the Cornersville Bulldogs golf team was unable to come away with a win on Thursday when they lost to Columbia Academy at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. Aided by a stellar performance from Lake Lomax, CA finished with a team score of 163 after taking the four best rounds from six players, while Cornersville (4-4) posted a 183, which was their third lowest score of the year. more
On Thursday, the FMS Rockets travelled to Wartrace and fell behind 12-8 late in the third quarter before scoring 22 unanswered points, stunning Cascade 30-12 to remain undefeated on the season at 3-0. The Rockets put up 232 total yards on offense, compared to 141 yards for Cascade, but the difference in the game was a pair of late interception returns for touchdowns by visiting Forrest. more
Although they posted their second best score of the season, the Marshall County Tigers suffered just their second loss of the year on the links when they were defeated by the Hickman County Bulldogs at Skyview Golf Club in Centerville on Thursday afternoon. Hickman County saw their top four players all shoot 40 or better over nine holes en route to posting a team score of 154, while the Tigers finished 10 strokes back with a 164. more
After battling to a 1-1 tie in both meetings last season, Marshall County and Cornersville were finally able to determine a winner on the pitch when the Tigerettes (1-0) defeated the Lady Bulldogs 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at CHS. Making her first ever start at goaltender, Marshall County sophomore Alexis Ford had a splendid debut in net and made an early goal by senior striker Emily Spence stand up by recording 10 saves in the contest. more
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs started the 2013 football campaign with a bang, as they hammered the Huntland Hornets 44-0 on Thursday night at home. CMS put the game out of reach early and built a 32-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more touchdowns over the final two quarters to cruise to the lopsided victory. With their defense and special teams accounting for three of their six touchdowns, the Bulldogs finished with a modest 197 yards of total offense, all on the ground, but averaged a whopping 13.1 yards per play. more
The Marshall County Tigers stumbled out of the gates to start the 2013 football season, as they lost 34-21 on the road to the Shelbyville Golden Eagles on Friday night. After taking a 21-20 lead into halftime, MCHS still held their slim one-point advantage late in the third quarter, but Shelbyville outscored the Tigers 14-0 down the stretch with the help of two big special teams plays to claim the 13-point victory. The Golden Eagles piled up 456 yards of total offense with 306 yards coming through the air. Shelbyville quarterback Mason Cunningham had a big night and completed 17-of-30 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception. more
John Denton notched his first victory as the head football coach of the Cornersville Bulldogs on Friday night when CHS went on the road and defeated the Huntland Hornets 25-20 in their season opener. Cornersville had their way with Huntland early on and built a 19-0 lead in the first half after scoring touchdowns on three of their first four possessions. The Bulldogs then had to scratch and claw to hold on for the win in the second half, as they had to withstand a late Huntland rally to claim the six-point victory. more
The Forrest Rockets opened the 2013 prep football season with a dominating performance, physically pounding Collinwood 42-2 Friday night in front of a packed house at "The Rock" in Chapel Hill. "We challenged them this week to come out and play from the first series on offense, defense, special teams, no matter what and they did very well with that tonight," said first-year Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "That is going to have to be our brand of football. Be physical on offense, control the clock, and play good defense." more

The Marshall County Tigers golf team widened their lead over the Cornersville Bulldogs and Forrest Rockets in the Gary Wells Cup by turning in a strong performance in the second leg of the event at the Lewisburg Recreation Center on a rainy Monday afternoon. Although the match was halted for 30 minutes due to heavy rains, the Tigers didn't seem bothered by the damp conditions and posted a season best team score of 161 after taking the four best rounds from six golfers. Cornersville finished with the second best score of the day and tallied a 179, while Forrest recorded a 192. more
The Marshall County Tigers retained the coveted Gary Wells Cup, outdistancing Cornersville by 70 shots and Forrest by a whopping 97 strokes in the three-legged event, which concluded Tuesday at Saddle Creek Golf Club in Lewisburg. Tiger junior Brooks Leftwich backed up rounds of 38 and 39 with a rough 44 on Tuesday to take home the Jeff Jones Medal as individual low medalist. Leftwich's three-day 121 total was three shots better than senior teammate Austin Blade (40-43-41-124) and six strokes clear of Forrest sophomore Gary Lukenon (40-42-45-127). more
Having missed the playoffs each of the last two years, the Cornersville Bulldogs are aiming to return to the postseason under new head coach John Denton, who had served as CHS' offensive line coach for four seasons. Cornersville got off to a promising start to the 2012 campaign, as they dropped a hard fought 39-36 decision to eventual District 9-A champ Moore County before notching convincing victories over Perry County (38-20) and Huntland (39-14) to run their record to 2-1. more
After enduring two straight subpar seasons, the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs showed that their program might be back on the upswing under new coach Scott Tillman when they defeated the Marshall County Tigers 20-7 at Preston Hopkins Field on Friday night in the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Pigskin Preview. With the contest lasting just one half, the Tigers were locked in a 7-7 tie with Lipscomb Academy late in the first quarter, but the Mustangs recorded touchdowns on their next two possessions to take a 20-7 lead with :10 left in the opening period while holding MCHS scoreless the rest of the way. more

With the contest lasting just one half, the Bulldogs failed to cash in on a couple of scoring chances in the first quarter before Cannon County took a 7-0 lead late in the second period on a 21-yard touchdown run by quarterback A.J. Elliot Cook made a smashing debut as the new head football coach of Lewisburg Middle School, as his LMS Tigers hammered Whitthorne Middle School 35-0 on Thursday night at Preston Hopkins Field. After crushing Whitthorne 70-20 last season en route to attaining a perfect 9-0 record, the Tigers once again ran roughshod over WMS and built a 35-0 lead through the first two quarters of play before calling off the dogs in the second half and cruising to their 14th straight victory. "It feels good. I was going to be satisfied with a win, but we shut them out so that makes it even better," said Cook. "I'm nervous before every game whether I'm the assistant or the head coach. If you're not nervous, you don't care." more
