Although they posted their second best score of the season, the Marshall County Tigers suffered just their second loss of the year on the links when they were defeated by the Hickman County Bulldogs at Skyview Golf Club in Centerville on Thursday afternoon.

Hickman County saw their top four players all shoot 40 or better over nine holes en route to posting a team score of 154, while the Tigers finished 10 strokes back with a 164.

"The guys played well, but Hickman County just had a good team," said MCHS coach Robby Giles. "I feel like we're getting better every match. Our scores are starting to drop and we're getting to where we need to be for the postseason."

Leading scorer

Cooper Mayes shot a one-under par 35 to lead the Bulldogs to the win, while Eric Gilbert carded a 37. Cody Golden and Zach Bentley both tallied a 40 for Hickman County as well.

Senior Austin Blade continued his strong play and paced the Tigers with a 37. Brooks Leftwich followed Blade with a 39, while Zach Smith and Carson Hill turned in a 42 and a 46 respectively.

"Austin and Brooks both played well and hung right with Hickman County's best two players on their home course. That's only the second time that they've played this course so I think they're both starting to round into form."

After taking on Eagleville at Champions Run Golf Course on Tuesday, Marshall County faces their toughest test of the season on Thursday afternoon when they take on two-time Region 6-A-AA champ Cascade at River Bend Country Club in Shelbyville.
