The Forrest Lady Rockets had a nightmare for a season opener Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, losing 10-1 to the Spring Hill Lady Raiders.
"It's disappointing to lose, but we will get better as the season goes on," said Forrest head coach Natalie Dennis. "On the bright side, we showed a lot of hustle, more than I have seen in practice, so I was very pleased with that."
Spring Hill scored a minute and half into the contest and controlled the ball throughout the first 40 minutes, leading 5-1 at the end of the first half.
Still learning
"It's hard to come back when you are down that much," said Dennis. "But, we are a young team, finding new players, and learning new positions, so we will get there."
Arielle Lemeiux netted the first goal for the Lady Raiders before Cameron Williams scored twice to make it 3-0 midway through the half.
Chasity Cornwall made it 4-0 moments later and Williams produced the first half hat trick with a goal at the ten minute mark, putting Spring Hill in front 5-0.
The Lady Rockets finally broke the ice when Aliyah Loyd hit the back of the net in extra time to make the halftime score 5-1.
Lady Raiders roll
Early in the second half it looked like Forrest would make a comeback attempt, but a couple of nice saves by the Spring Hill goalie and few errant shots by the Lady Rockets kept Forrest down by four goals.
Lemeiux added her second goal of the contest before Williams tallied her fourth score of the night to make it a 7-1 blowout.
Things got worse for the Lady Rockets when Brooklyn Prewett went off for the Lady Raiders late in the game, putting up three consecutive goals for the natural hat trick and the game ended in a 10-1 loss for Forrest.
The Lady Rockets will try to get things in order as they travel to Webb on Tuesday before returning home for their first district game of the season when they host MTCS on Thursday.
