Despite turning in one of their better efforts of the season, the Cornersville Bulldogs golf team was unable to come away with a win on Thursday when they lost to Columbia Academy at the Lewisburg Recreation Center.

Aided by a stellar performance from Lake Lomax, CA finished with a team score of 163 after taking the four best rounds from six players, while Cornersville (4-4) posted a 183, which was their third lowest score of the year.

Top round

Lomax turned in the best round of the match and shot a one-under par 35 to lead Columbia Academy to victory. Zane Johnson followed Lomax with a 40, while Case Maner and Austin Butterfield notched a 43 and a 45 respectively.

Junior Tate Lowery continued his steady play for CHS and paced the Bulldogs with a 38. Matthew Karban and J.D. Crabtree both shot a 47 as well, while Colbe Downs turned in a 51. Justin Singleton and Blake Calahan also carded a 53 and a 57 for Cornersville.

"Even though we lost, I feel like we're competing now," said CHS coach Joy McMasters. "Every one of the kids have improved their scores this season and I think they're excited about it. We don't have a single senior on the team either. They're all sophomores and juniors."

Girls

In the girls match, the two teams were only able to complete the first seven holes before it was ended due to darkness. Taking the two best rounds from three players, Columbia Academy claimed the win by posting a team score of 89, while the Lady Bulldogs finished two strokes back with a 91.

"We're getting better, but we're just not there yet. We're really young right now, but I think Cornersville is going to have a good girls golf team if they continue playing," said McMasters.

Madison Dant led CA with a 40 and Miranda Goats tallied a 49. Freshman Ellie Jackson recorded the low round of the day for Cornersville and paced CHS with a 43. Carly Salsman followed Jackson with a 48, while Emma Reese shot a 52.
