Despite having a student enrollment hovering around 300 students, Cornersville is becoming a well-known stop for college recruiters every spring as the fourth player in just two years signed a scholarship on Tuesday. Kirsten Young, a standout pitcher and third baseman, signed to play softball for the next two seasons at Jackson State Community College in West Tennessee. "I chose Jackson State because it's a small community college like (Cornersville), pretty much," Young, who has only lost one game on the mound this season, stated. "I'm excited about meeting the new people and going away from home." more

The Marshall County Tigerettes entered Thursday night’s match-up with 3A Shelbyville Central in the grips of a four-game losing streak as they struggle for offense, having scored just five runs during the time span. While the offensive woes continued against the Golden Eaglettes, the Tigerettes defense remained solid by allowing a single run in a 1-0 pitching duel loss in Bedford County. Marlee Woodward turned in arguably her best pitching performance of the regular season by throwing a complete game with a game-high 23 first pitch strikes. Woodward struck out three and walked one batter, but a fifth inning run by Shelbyville was the difference in the ballgame. more
Coming off of two consecutive two-run losses to district leader Richland to start the week, the Cornersville Bulldogs went back to work for the third day in a row, hosting 2A Giles County on Wednesday night. And despite the Bobcats (10-9) coming into Cornersville with a red hot five-game winning streak that includes two wins over the same Richland squad by a 22-6 margin, the Bulldogs hung tough by coming back from a 10-2 deficit to lose a close 12-9 ballgame. Ethan Mealer is on a major tear on the mound as the Forrest freshman blanked Fayetteville Tuesday night to extend his scoreless streak to 19 innings and salvage a split for the Rockets in the season series. “It was great to see how the boys reacted to a loss Monday night,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “The coaching staff was really pleased that they didn't hit a panic button and just got back to playing our team's game.” Mealer tossed seven innings of no-hit ball at MTCS last Tuesday in an extra inning 1-0 win by the Rockets and he backed it up with a stellar performance in the 10-0 run-rule win versus the Tigers. more

The age old sports adage says it’s hard to beat the same team three times in one season and after the Lady Bulldogs beat the Richland Raiders by a combined 22-3 in two early season district games, the longtime rivals found themselves paired together for a third time in the second game of the Zion Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Just like the previous two meetings, the Lady Bulldogs were able to shut down the Raiders in the batter’s box and put down timely hits to beat Richland 7-1 to advance to the tournament finals versus the host, Zion Christian. "The keys to any win are hitting the ball," Cornersville coach Eric Crabtree said. "We've got great pitching, great hitting, and we've got a team full of players that want to be out there. When you put the bat on the ball, good things happen." more

Cornersville took a 4-1 lead into the fourth inning before Moore County (4-9) slowly inched its way back to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth, but starting pitcher Ben Taylor delivered a walk-off game winning double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bulldogs its fifth win in a row. more
