The Forrest Lady Rockets reeled off their third straight win on the pitch by defeating the Marshall County Tigerettes 3-2 in Lewisburg on Tuesday afternoon.
Forrest (3-1) got off to a fast start and raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before staving off a spirited Tigerette rally attempt to claim the hard fought victory.
"It was important to get off to a good start because sometimes we lose steam and need to have a lead," said FHS coach Natalie Dennis. "This game used to be bigger when we were in the same District. I think we should all support each now, but it's still nice to win against a team close to home."

Westwood ran the ball 30 times and did not attempt a pass in a 22-6 win in the battle of the Rockets Thursday night in Chapel Hill.
FMS outgained their namesakes by 12 yards in the Duck River Valley Conference matchup, but could not sustain enough drives or come up with the big play when they needed it.
"We just never did get anything going," said FMS head Coach Bart Joyce. "They got a good ball team and came out with a big play on play one and we never responded to it. We laid back on our heels, we had a big play here and there, had some points, but never got to feed off of it and never got it going."

The Forrest Rockets did not let last week's heartbreaking loss versus Cascade deter their mission of winning District 9A this season as they came back vigorously versus top-ranked Moore County, blanking the Raiders 23-0 at "The Rock" in Friday night's league opener.
"The guys played excellent, they executed the game plan as we wanted," said Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "Monday was a very quiet practice and these young kids, you don't know what they're thinking, but I think they were focused and ready to go to work this week."
The Forrest (2-1, 1-0) win was just the second triumph over Moore County (2-1, 0-1) in 26 years, with the last victory coming in 2009.

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs did everything but put the ball in the back of the net on Thursday evening, as they had to settle for a 0-0 tie on the road with new District 11-A-AA foe Culleoka because of a stellar performance from Lady Warrior goaltender Ashlind James.
Having crushed Culleoka 12-0 in their lone meeting last season, the Lady Bulldogs (0-2-1, 0-1-1 District) completely controlled the action in Thursday's contest and outshot the Lady Warriors 25-5 overall, including a 15-3 advantage in the second half.

Defending District 9-A champ Moore County (2-0) handed the Cornersville Bulldogs their first loss of the season on Friday night when they thumped CHS 34-0 in Lynchburg.
The Raiders had narrowly defeated Cornersville 39-36 last year, but Moore County imposed their will on the inexperienced Bulldogs (1-1) on Friday, as they built a 22-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more touchdowns over the final two quarters to record their third straight win against CHS.
Using a punishing ground attack, the Raiders methodically wore down Cornersville's defense and racked up 397 yards of total offense overall, which included 348 yards rushing on 63 carries.

The Forrest Rockets came tantalizingly close to pulling off a great comeback win over Cascade at "The Rock" in Chapel Hill Friday night, but their lone turnover of the night was a heartbreaker, fumbling at the four-yard line with one minute remaining in the ballgame to hand the Champions a 21-19 victory.
"We drove the ball down the field very well and got excited and just turned the football over there at the end, we just have to keep our composure and keep working," said Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "That was our first turnover of the night, but it was very costly. We had the field goal team ready and we were just trying to get in position."
