After losing to Hickman County two weeks earlier in Centerville, the Marshall County Tigers evened the score on Wednesday afternoon when they defeated the Bulldogs at Saddle Creek Golf Course.
Taking the four best rounds from each team, the Tigers (8-4-2) posted a team score of 165 after playing the front nine holes at Saddle Creek, while Hickman County finished four strokes back with a 169.
"This is a great comeback for us. After I saw them play the first time, I knew that they weren't a better team than us. I thought we were just as good as them and we proved that today," said Marshall County coach Robby Giles.
Season's best
Junior Brooks Leftwich turned in the best round of the season for the Tigers, as he recorded four birdies on the day en route to shooting a two-under par 34.
"Brooks was awesome today. He's been one of our team leaders this season," said Giles. "He's leading us in average and his scores have been getting lower and lower. He's the first one to shoot under par this year. That's great momentum for him going into the District tournament."
Leftwich cited his putting as being the key to his success, stating, "I made putts today. I hit them pretty firm and had some good lines. I hit some good approach shots so a lot of my putts were seven or eight feet, but I also made a couple of long putts for birdie too."
Other scorers
Austin Blade and Zach Smith followed Leftwich with a 41 and a 42 respectively, while Patrick Kennedy carded a 48. Kasey Beard also tallied a 50 for MCHS and Alex Steely notched a 58.
Cooper Mayes was the low man for the Bulldogs and paced Hickman County with a 39, while Eric Gilbert and Colby Shelton shot a 42 and a 43 respectively. Zach Bentley turned in a 45 for the Bulldogs as well and Cody Golden posted a 52.
The Tigers return to action on Monday when they take on Forrest and Giles County in an 18-hole match at Henry Horton State Park.
