Mr. Charles Allen May, age 72, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his residence. Mr. May was a native of Marshall County, the son of the late Allen and Nina Farler May. He retired from ICP and was a member of Hickory Heights Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brooks May. He is survived by his wife, Janice May of Lewisburg; a son, Chris May of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Alice (Mattew) McCrate of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Mary (Nick) Hooper of Gallatin, and a brother, Phil (Lynn) May of Cornersville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services were conducted Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 7 pm and visitation was on Thursday afternoon from 2 until the funeral hour. London Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. more
Glenda Sue Simmons Carnell, age 45, died on July 23, 2016 in Punta Gorda, Florida. She is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Timothy Simmons and father, Glen Simmons. She is survived by her husband, Paul Carnell; her mother, Sue Ann Blankenship; step-father, Charlie Blankenship and two sons, Brandon Woodall and Dillion Carnell . One grandson, Lucas Carnell, also survives. Memorial services will be held on September 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Berean Baptist Church, 1799 South Berlin Road, Lewisburg, Tennessee with James Kinslow officiating. more
James Berry Dark, age 75 of Lewisburg, died Monday, September 12, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Dark was a native of Marshall County, Tennessee, the son of the late Charlie and Mary Eva Dark. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was retired from International Comfort Products. He was a member of the Marshall County VFW Post 5109 where he served as Commander for a number of years. He was instrumental in placing monuments at the Marshall County Court House yard naming the Marshall County Veterans that have made the supreme sacrifice defending our country and freedom. He was a member of the Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Cora Dark and brother, Ray Dark. He is survived by his daughter, Darlene (Chris) Byrd of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Kristina, Kelsy, and Kistopher Byrd; partner, Montez Riner of Lewisburg and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of London Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family was at London Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. for visitation. London Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. more
Phyllis Adcock Sentlingar, age 66 died Wednesday, April 12, 2016 in Tampa, Florida. She was a native of Marshall County graduating from Marshall County High School in 1968. She was a resident in Tampa, Florida for many years teaching school for 34 years before retiring from Paco County School System of Florida in 2006. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Verble and Kathryn Adcock and her sister, Sandra Adcock. She is survived by two sons, Sean Sentlingar and Brett Sentlingar both of Florida; a grandson, Austin Maze and two brothers, Glenn (Wanda) Adcock, Lewisburg, Tennessee and Phillip (Diana) Adcock of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. A Memorial Service will be held at Sunset Park on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Steve Evans officiating. It is with regret that we announce the death of Mrs. Betty Whorton Barham, age 73, of Fayetteville, Tennessee. Mrs. Barham passed away September 8, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Barham was a native of New Hope, Alabama, the daughter of the late Titus Whorton and Leora Keel Whorton, who survives. She was a dedicated mother and friend to all who knew her. She was a nurse for over 40 years and truly enjoyed helping and taking care of others, placing others' needs before and above her own. She enjoyed reading and traveling, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially with her five toddler nieces, two toddler nephews and one toddler great grandson. She couldn't wait to wake up everyday to see what had been going on with them for the day and hearing the stories she got from their mothers every day of the new things they were learning or things they would do at school or just for the day. She loved everyone unconditionally no matter who you were. She will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include her daughter Beth (Michael) Young of Dallas, Texas; mother Leora Keel Whorton; sister Brenda (Donald) Keel; brother Jerry (Sandra) Whorton; sister Susan (Nathan) Nickelson all of New Hope, Alabama; sister-in-law Paulette (Pat) Carver of Petersburg, Tennesee along with four grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son William Lyle Barham, Jr.; a daughter Amy Shannon "Crickett" Barham; her father Titus Whorton, brother Teddy Whorton and numerous aunts, uncles and other family members. A private family graveside service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Barham requested that memorials may be made, in memory of her daughter Amy "Crickett" Barham, to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20814. Donald Rhea "Don" Newman, age 57 of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Maury Regional Medical Center. Mr. Newman was a native of Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of the late Bobby Newman and Joyce McCormack Zito of Tellico Plain, Tennessee. He was a supervisor with Nichirin, Inc. and member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Rhea Newman. He is survived by his wife, Connie Faye Baugher Newman of Lewisburg; two daughters, Megan Newman (Clint) Rich of Lewisburg and Hannah Newman (Ryan) Davis of Cornersville; three sisters, Nancy Montgomery of Canton, Georgia, Sara Deffendall of Clarksville and Doree Hedgcoth of Lewisburg; foster mother, Margaret Willis of Lewisburg and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Harold Foster Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of London Funeral Home with burial following in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family was at London Funeral Home Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 p.m. until the funeral hour for visitation. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Tipper, Rocky Spencer, Franky James, Cody Henson, and Anthony Poarch. London Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. more
Marie Poarch, age 92 of Cornersville, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in NHC Lewisburg Healthcare. Mrs. Poarch was a native of Giles County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late George and Maggie McMackin Wood. She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Newman Wood. She is survived by her husband, George Calvin Poarch of Cornersville; daughter, Lynn (Phil) May of Cornersville; brother, Bruce Wood of Cornersville; two granddaughters, Tammy (Neel) Woodall and Lori (Mike) Parmley and one great granddaughter, Laura Marie Parmley. Graveside services were conducted Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Mars Hill Cemetery. The family was at Cornersville Funeral Home Friday from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. for visitation. Mr. Jimmy Dale Kelley, age 68, of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 in Columbia, Tennessee. Mr. Kelley was born in Dekalb County and was a son of the late James Wilson and Claudia Alene Ferrell Kelley. He was a heavy equipment operator, having retired from Beckham Excavating Company of Lewisburg, Tennessee. Mr. Kelley was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, John and Ola Mae Lamb; a son, Jamie Kelley; sister, Wanda Shirley and brother, Larry Kelley. Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife, Brenda Crutcher Kelley, Holts Corner Community; daughter, Tammy Kelley (Jerry) Doggett, Chapel Hill, Tennessee; son, Jimmy Dewayne Kelley, Holts Corner Community; sisters, Jan (Jerry) Yeager, Laws Hill Community, Patricia (Larry) Ketchum, Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Debbie (Junior) Campbell, Shelbyville, Tennessee, Barbara (Danny) Messick, Shelbyville, Tennessee, Vanda Kelley, Lewisburg, Tennessee, Linda (Gerald) Gordon, Lewisburg, Tennessee, Ruby (Albert) Crane, Holts Corner Community, Brenda Lamb, Holts Corner Community; five grandchildren, Leann Hillard, Susie Runions, Erika Haulk, Josh Doggett, Jonathan Doggett and 12 great grandchildren. Barbara Ann Baggett Cheek, age 64 of Columbia, died on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Maury Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Ms. Cheek was a personal caregiver. She was preceded in death by her father, Earnest Lee Baggett; paternal grandfather, Thomas Baggett; paternal grandmother, Bertie Lee Alday Baggett; an uncle, Wilburt Baggett; an aunt, Ola Mae Baggett and maternal grandmother, Annie Mae Sellers. She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Keith) Westmoreland and DeAnna (James) Woodward; son, Mahlon (Christina) Cheek; eight grandchildren, Katie Dorman, Ryan Parker, Matthew Parker, Blake (Ashley) Woodward, Breanna Hodges, Alley Woodward, Billy Cheek, and Matthew Dorman; two great grandchildren, Aubrey Rae and Maddie Ann Woodward all of Lewisburg, and many extended family and friends. Memorial services will be conducted by Bro. Kevin Robinson Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of London Funeral Home. Edna Crouch Turner, age 97 of Nashville, Tennessee died Sept. 7, 2016. Edna was a member of Acklen Avenue Church of Christ and was the first lady Vice President in Nashville in the banking business. She was Head of the Stock Transfer Department at First American Bank. She was preceded in death by husband, Walter Turner; sister, Mary Frances Brittain; brothers, E.C. Crouch and Charles "Bubba" Crouch. She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Turner Walker; grandchildren, Ben (Jana) Walker and Corey (Zakk) Fann; six great grandchildren; brother, Bill (Fran) Crouch; sister-in-law, Margie Crouch; several loving nieces and nephews. Graveside service and interment will be conducted Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. at Turner Cemetery, by Wendell Byrd. Mrs. Elizabeth Ussery, age 85, of Lewisburg, passed on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Lewisburg, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Sally Evans and Milton Evans. She was a member of Second Avenue Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Terry Ussery Jr., and 10 brothers and sisters. She retired from Genesco Shoe Factory. Elizabeth Ussery, is survived by one sister, Mamie Mayes, and seven adult children: Lisa Greer, Billy Ussery, Johnny Ussery, Ray Ussery, Thomas Ussery, Baby Ray Dalton and Tracy Cowthorn; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
