Marshall County and the City of Lewisburg will host the county’s first annual Veterans Day Parade on Thursday, November 11. The parade will begin at Marshall County High School at 9:30 a.m. and will follow the route of Tiger Boulevard to West Commerce and end at the Lewisburg Square in time for the 11 a.m. Veterans Day service which will be held on the east side of the square.
Any veteran who wishes to participate in the parade should call the Marshall County Veterans Services Office at 359-5482 or Mayor Mike Keny’s office at 359-1279 to register.
Several veterans as well as veteran organizations have already signed up to participate and will be joined in the parade by both the Marshall County High School Marching Band and the Forrest High School Band of Blue as well as members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“Veterans Day is a very special day as we pause and show our respect and appreciation to the many veterans who have served our country,“ said Keny. “We are thankful to the many different groups in the county who through the years have celebrated our veterans with Veterans Day programs.”
Keny said that the idea of hosting a parade had been discussed for a couple of years, although the COVID pandemic derailed plans to hold the event last year. Partnering with the city of Lewisburg, this year will mark the first of what should be an annual event.
“The citizens of Lewisburg are privileged to once again honor our veterans with this first annual parade,” said Lewisburg Mayor Jim Bingham.
Marshall County High School is one of many schools hosting events. As the site of the parade’s origin they will host all Veterans for a light breakfast at 8:15 a.m., conduct a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m., and form a tunnel of flags for all veterans to exit the school to begin the parade.
Marshall County currently has over 1,900 veteran residents.
“We’re looking forward to having a great day and hope many of our veterans county-wide will participate,” said Keny. “I’m also asking that all Marshall County citizens come out along the parade route to show their support and pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country.”
