The Marshall County Tigerettes found out the hard way that the game ain't over until it's over Tuesday night when they suffered a surprising 44-40 loss to District rival Lewis County in Dottie Kelso Gymnasium.
Having demolished the Lady Panthers 58-30 in their first encounter on Dec. 11 in Hohenwald, the Tigerettes held a commanding 16-point lead at halftime and appeared headed to another easy victory.
Everything came unraveled for Marshall County (18-3, 9-1 District) in the second half, however, as the Lady Panthers dominated the final two quarters of play and outscored the Tigerettes 34-14 during that span to hand MCHS a bitter four-point loss.
Marshall County now falls into a tie for first place in the District standings with Lewis County thanks to Tuesday's setback and suffered their first defeat in league play in over a year.
