The cooking started at 5 o'clock in the morning and continued throughout the day. This was to be a supper with a distinctive menu. No ordinary meal of beef steak or chicken would do for this crew. The buffet line included deer, elk, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, beaver, pheasant, ducks, dove, quail and more.
Those eating on this night are all men between 8 and 80 years of age. It should come as no surprise that most of the men are hunting enthusiasts.
Also on tap at this dinner are door prizes, which include six rifles and several buck knives.
When the meal is over no one goes home empty-handed. In addition to a stomach full of wild game, each will take home a large, keg-shaped mug. In an evening filled with surprises, it is the contents of those mugs that are perhaps most surprising of all.
Each contains a camouflage-colored Bible.
