Members of the Marshall County Education Association met Friday, May 24, for their annual end-of-year luncheon, to celebrate another year of teaching successfully completed.
The event was held in the First United Methodist Church's beautiful McKnight Center, and catered by the Starlight Cafe of Cornersville.
MCEA Vice President Jim Fullerton gave the invocation and Tennessee Education Association President Gera Summerford made a few remarks. MCEA President Nicky Randolph announced a series of awards.
Outstanding seniors, community volunteers, and retiring teachers were recognized and applauded. So was scholarship recipient Olivia Steely, who will hopefully be back in Marshall County in a few years' time, teaching high school English.
Sanford donated the "goodie bags" on the tables, which were full of pens, pencils and markers. Randolph politely asked those who were not teachers, like County Commissioners Tom Sumners and Anna Childress, and school board member Barbara Kennedy, to leave the bags for the teachers.
