Russie Garrett was born in Farmington on June 6, 1917. She is the daughter of the late J.P. Burrow and Lizzie Cook Burrow and one of eleven children. She has a sister who turned 99 this year. Russie was married at 15 years of age, to Julius “Dood” Edwards, in Athens, AL. Russie and Dood had one son, William Edwards. They were married for 39 years when Dood passed away...

Russie turns 101

Russie Garrett was born in Farmington on June 6, 1917. She is the daughter of the late J.P. Burrow and Lizzie Cook Burrow and one of eleven children. She has a sister who turned 99 this year.

Russie was married at 15 years of age, to Julius “Dood” Edwards, in Athens, AL. Russie and Dood had one son, William Edwards. They were married for 39 years when Dood passed away.

She remarried at 77 years old to Thomas Garrett. She presently has three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Russie enjoys dancing, playing cards, gardening, loving on animals, and wearing high heels and lipstick.
