PA infant recovered in Lewisburg

A missing Pennsylvania infant was found in Lewisburg on Tuesday, and his parents are behind bars.

Jeannette Funnen, 32, and Daemon Klingensmith, 23, were stopped on Tuesday at the intersection of Mooresville Highway and West Ellington Parkway by a Lewisburg detective after he spotted their vehicle.

The couple are alleged to have taken their 7-week-old son from a hospital emergency room in Pittsburgh on Sept. 26, after medical personnel noticed bruising consistent with abuse but before he could be examined by a doctor.

They then left Pennsylvania with family members believing they could be on their way to Florida.

The Nashville office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation tipped off the Lewisburg Police Department that the couple could be in the area, after which Lewisburg detectives and crime suppression units began combing the city.

Their vehicle was spotted on North Ellington Parkway and followed until the license plate was confirmed.

The pair were arrested without incident, according to LPD’s Scott Braden.

The infant and his three-year-old brother, also in the vehicle, were taken to the hospital for evaluation and are in state care awaiting Pennsylvania children’s services.

Klingensmith and Funnen are currently in the Marshall County Jail as fugitives from justice.

They are awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania on charges of child endangerment and intimidation, retaliation or obstruction in child abuse cases.

“We’re glad we could apprehend them,” said Braden.
