New jobs created here since last year were a cause for celebration at the Industrial Board's meeting this week.
CKNA, RockTenn, and Christian Brands creation of new jobs in Lewisburg was widely recognized as a wonderful thing for the community. According to Greg Lowe, director of economic development, over 1000 jobs have been created since 2012.
Lowe announced he has been working on a new marketing video for Lewisburg that is approximately 30 minutes in length. He plans to use this on the websites and give it to realtors and different businesses. He also mentioned joining with the Chamber of Commerce to revive the Shop Local Campaign.
In other business, members of the Industrial Board voted unanimously for the motion granting a new 10-year PILOT for the old ICP building, represented by Tony Beyer.
On the topic of improving the appearance of the town, Lewisburg Mayor Jim Bingham mentioned future resurfacing of several streets, including improving the intersection of West Commerce and 8th Avenue. He also mentioned the possibility of new sidewalks to be installed throughout the community, and even ramps to the Lewisburg Greenway.
Plans are underway to improve the signage for the industrial parks and the "Welcome to Lewisburg" signs. The city also plans to wrap the three current park projects into one grant request.
