From Staff Reports

On Friday, March 22, Chief Jackie King completed his final official duty with the Town of Chapel Hill as he turned over Chapel Hill Chief of Police responsibility to newly sworn in Chief Chris Cook in front of employees, friends, family and elected officials.

The ceremony was bitter sweet, said Town Administrator Mike Hatten.

"Chief King has held a certain standard when taking care of our citizens and Chief Cook understands this is our top priority," said Hatten.

Dawn Lovins, Recorder/Treasurer swore in Chief Cook.

The Chaplain of Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Chapel Hill Police Department, Larry Chatman, held the Bible during the ceremony. King and Leigh Cook pinned the stripes and chief badge on the new chief. Chris Cook said he felt thankful and blessed and said he appreciated the confidence from the Board of Mayor and Alderman and administration for allowing him the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police for the greatest town in Marshall County.

"Chief Cook will need every one's support, and I assured him if he took care of the citizens they would certainly take care of him," said King.

Although King is now retired, he said he is, and always will be, a dedicated servant to the community and he wished Chief Cook the best of luck and promised to assist him in every way possible.
