Employees at one Lewisburg business gathered before Thanksgiving to share a meal, not only amongst themselves but with the wider community as well.

Metro Door, a division of Cintas, celebrated their annual spirit day with a catered luncheon and a donation to the Care Kitchen of Marshall County.

The Care Kitchen is a weekly program at the McKnight Center at First United Methodist Church in Lewisburg that provides a meal to those who need one.

Area churches rotate every Thursday evening at 6 p.m., preparing and providing meals for approximately 65 Marshall Countians every week.

Twenty-five local businesses, from Autozone to Mildred's, contributed items or gift cards which were raffled off to Metro Door employees.

Proceeds from the raffle tickets meant close to a $1,300 donation to support meals at the Care Kitchen for those who need them.

Mark Irvin, minister at First United Methodist Church which hosts the Care Kitchen, thanked the employees for their generosity and shared stories reflecting the difference that the Care Kitchen makes in the community.

"If we didn't have support like this, we wouldn't be able to do near as much as we do," Irvin said.

Metro Door has been holding spirit days for at least the last 10 years, with proceeds the last four years earmarked for the Care Kitchen.

"One of the initiatives for Spirit Day is to celebrate our partners commitment to our company spirit and putting that spirit into action by supporting our local community in an area of need," Metro Door General Manager Jeff Chevalier said. "We are proud to be supporters of the Care Kitchen and the work it is doing in our local community."
