The Herbert College of Agriculture at the UT Institute of Agriculture is announcing the selection of six new members of the Farm Credit Scholars Program. The Farm Credit Scholars Program was established in the Herbert College of Agriculture at The University of Tennessee in 2012 with support from Farm Credit Mid-America (FCMA) and today students in the program are continually being prepared for leadership positions within agriculture industry.
This year FCMA selected one student from Marshall County as a Farm Credit Scholar: Kendall Martin, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics major.
FCMA number one goal in this program is to enhance the learning experience of students and prepare them for careers as future leaders within the agriculture industry. These scholars will receive a $3,000 annual scholarship as they continue throughout the program. The selected scholars are all pursuing majors within the Herbert College of Agriculture and in addition to their studies will be required to complete courses in accounting, farm and agribusiness management, agricultural finances, agricultural law, sales, and leadership.
Martin shared, “The Farm Credit Scholars Program, specifically, will allow me to expand my horizons and learn with hands on opportunities. I know this experience will enhance my understanding of agriculture and agricultural finance and further develop my leadership skills so I can be successful throughout my college and professional careers. I plan to work hard so I can share my passion for agriculture through both my career choices and volunteer work.”
