Halloween treats start early with activities, festivities

Halloween might still be two weeks away but those two weeks are packed with activities and festivities based on the holiday.

The town of Cornersville will come alive with ghosts, goblins and every form of trick-or-treater on Saturday, Oct. 26, when the Cornersville Lions Club hosts their annual Halloween in the Park. A variety of contests and games begin at 5 p.m. along with community wide trick-or-treating.

There is something for every member of the family including costume contests for children and pets starting at 5 p.m. What kid doesn’t enjoy jumping in a hay stack, better yet, a hay stack with money and prizes hidden in it. The Hay Stack search for those under nine years old will be at 5:30 p.m. Stick around afterwards for the Mummy Wrap and cake walk. Hayrides will run from 6 until 8 p.m., so wear something warm for the ride. Wristbands for park activities $1.

The Munsters and Addams families can also enjoy an entire meal of homemade chili, hot dogs, drinks and desserts from the costumed characters in the concession stand.

While Cornersville’s Halloween in the Park is still a week away, there is still spooky fun on tap for this weekend.

Henry Horton State Park is hosting their haunted hayride on both Friday and Saturday. Rides begin at 7 p.m. each night for the first-come-first served event. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event on the park’s website and are $8, ages two and under free.

At Malice Haunted Attraction on Nix Road in Lewisburg, a Halloween themed car show will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Entrants, pre-1987 vehicles only, will receive discounted tickets to the haunt. For more details, check their webpage at www.Malicehauntedattraction.com.

This witch on Cornersville Highway has traded in her broomstick for a bicycle to better get around to the Halloween activities all over the county for the next couple of weeks.
