Gower finishes residency

Kevin and Jackie Gower would like to announce the graduation of their son Kellen Haywood Gower from Medical Residency at Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Kellen is a native of Marshall County, graduating in 2007 from Marshall County High School, finishing top 10 in his class as a dual sport athlete in both football and baseball. He is the grandson of the late Shelby Haywood and Martha Haywood Cross of Marshall County.

He attended Middle Tennessee State University for undergraduate, majoring in Biology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then attended medical school at The University of Tennessee Health and Science Center, graduating in 2016.

He matched at his first choice for residency in Family Medicine at one of the top programs in the country, Bayfront Health. He has gone on to practice full scope family medicine and completed concentration areas in Critical Care Medicine, Sports Medicine, Inpatient Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, and Pediatric Medicine. Additionally he was elected to be the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) resident delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA) promoting national health policies, elected as the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) Resident Vice President promoting state health policies, and was the Florida nominee as the Resident Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.

He has also gone on to have multiple publications and national presentations across the country.

Now that he is a board certified Family Physician, Kellen will continue his training this Fall at the prestigious James Andrews Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama where he will complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship. The program provides side line and medical coverage for the University of Alabama, Troy University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Samford University, numerous local high schools, and a multitude of collegiate and professional athletes. Following completion of his fellowship, Kellen and his fiance’ will be returning to Florida, where he has accepted a position at Millennium Health in Wesley Chapel, just north of Tampa. He will be practicing both primary care and specializing in sports medicine.
