The Friends of Henry Horton (FOHH), an environmental and conservation non-profit group recently held their 3rd Annual Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament at the picturesque 7,060 yard Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park.

The FOHH group provides support for Henry Horton State Park by assisting with Park programs, activities and the coordination of volunteers in order to protect the parks natural and cultural resources and provide educational and recreational opportunities.

FOHH President Stacey Cothran said, "We appreciate all the community support for our ongoing projects and a special thanks to our major sponsors Waste Management and Mr. Bult's Inc. (MBI)."

The Waste Management team of Robert Cheney, Warren Cheney, Sam Smith, and Will Joiner came out on top in the Championship Flight with a score of 55.

In second place with a 15-under par score of 57 was the Lee Cothran team. Cothran teamed up with Mendel Lloyd, Greg Allen and Roy Williams.

Coming to the clubhouse in third place, carding a 59 was the MBI #2 team of Cliff O'Meara, John Dugan, Brent McPherson, and Brendon Sherriff.

The tournament raised $4,000 and according to Cothran, "The money will go to the continuation of our Duck River Education program and we have also applied for a grant (we should hear back in August) to replace the swing sets in the park. The state has deemed that they have to be torn down this summer. I was very upset about this situation because a park is not a park without a swing set! We also have the new fitness cluster that we installed last fall that is located behind the swimming pool for children to exercise on and hopefully continue to address the rising problem of childhood obesity."

Bill Marsh won the putting contest and John Dugan won the long drive contest with a long bomb of 378 yards on the Par 5 18th hole.

The Tennessee Environmental Team of John McFadden, William Penny, Straley Holton, and Anthony Puca finished first in the First Flight with a 63 and tied for second with identical 64's was the Forrest High School two-some of Hunter Shankle and Davey McClaren and the MBI #1 team of Garett Pair, Chelsey Morgan, Bentley London, and Scott Findlay.

Cothran also said, "The FOHH has recently been presented with the Governor's Stewardship Award for our Duck River Watershed education program that we do every year with the 5th graders at Chapel Hill Elementary School. We will be receiving our award at a special awards dinner on August 24."
