A Giles County corrections officer has been charged with having sexual contact with an inmate, after an incident that allegedly happened in Marshall County.

Michael Wade Brown, 52, of Pulaski, was arrested and made a bond of $6,000. His first appearance in General Sessions Court here has been set for Dec. 10.

On Oct. 23, Brown was sent to Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute in Nashville to pick up a female inmate and transport her back to the Giles County Jail, according to a press release from Marshall County Sheriff Norman Dalton.

While en route back to Pulaski, Brown pulled off Interstate 65 at Exit 32 in Marshall County, stopped behind a vacant building, and allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with the woman.

A short time after the female inmate returned to Giles County, she told Giles County officers what had happened.

Since the incident happened in Marshall County, Assistant District Attorney Eddie Barnard was contacted by Giles County authorities and he, in turn, released the information he was given to Dalton. The investigation was turned over to Marshall County Sheriff's Detective Jimmy Oliver.

As a result of Oliver's investigation, on Nov. 20 Brown was arrested.

His alleged victim remains incarcerated in Giles County Jail, one of about 37 female inmates, out of a total population of nearly 150.
