The award-winning Rocket Band of Blue, under the leadership of band director Caleb Boone, has named two new field commanders for their upcoming season. Junior Allie Bowman (right), the daughter of Thomas and Heather Bowman of Chapel Hill, will take the helm along with sophomore Jeanne Kay Smartt, daughter of Sharrin and Chuck Peter of Lewisburg and the late Bob Smartt. Bowman and Smartt, both in the woodwind section, have been members of the band since elementary school. The girls were recently chosen to participate in the UT-Martin Honor Band earlier in the year. The Rocket Band of Blue currently has 39 members and will soon begin preparing for band camp, competitions and football games. This year’s theme will be “Of Bells and Angels” and will feature the “Doxology”, “Amazing Grace” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns”.
