After the battle between the last two unbeaten teams in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League was rained out last week, the Chapel Hill Farm Center and Elks Lodge #1990 finally met in Wednesday night's second game of the twin bill.
It was anticlimactic as the Farm Center (5-0) took an easy four-inning 11-1 run-rule win.
Mound star
Farm Center hurler Ethan Mealer bounced back from his worst outing of the season on Monday with a strong performance, going the distance for the victory on the mound.
Mealer surrendered just two hits in the contest, while striking out six and walking one Elks' batter.
The Elks (6-1) took an early 1-0 lead, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but the Farm Center got the run right back in the bottom of the inning, also scoring an unearned run. Mealer tossed a scoreless top of the second inning before Chapel Hill exploded for eight runs in the home half of the inning, sending 13 batters to the plate.
The big blow in the offensive explosion was a three-run homerun to dead center field by Jackson Coward.
Big hitters
Dustin Brashear also had a two-run double and Jarvis Lyttle banged a run-scoring single for the Farm Center, which was also the recipients of three bases on balls, a hit batsman and two errors in the field by the Elks that contributed to the game changing inning.
Trailing 9-1, the Elks went down 1-2-3 in the top of the third inning.
Lyttle reached on an error to begin the bottom of the inning and Allante Watts moved him to second base on a groundout.
Far ahead
Watts stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaylen Smith, making it 10-1.
Mealer struck out the first two batters in the top of the fourth before Grayson Whaley lashed a single to left field and took second on an outfield bobble.
Mealer reached back and whiffed the next Elks' hitter and in the bottom of the inning, Lyttle led off with a double to left field and the game ended on a walk off RBI single by Mealer.
