The Eagleville Middle School Eagles had a little bit more trouble with the FMS Rockets the second time around this season, but used a 16-point second quarter to run away and hide in a 47-19 home win.
The Rockets started slow and trailed 10-2 at Eagleville Monday night before digging in as they cut the lead to 10-6 on one free throw by Cohen Grissom and a three-point play the old-fashioned way by Eli Bell with 1:08 remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles responded with a 5-1 mini-run to end the first period with a 15-7 lead.
Eagleville put the foot to the medal to begin the second period, going on a big 10-0 run behind eight points by James Bega, who led all scorers in the contest with 18 points.
The Rockets finally got on the board in the second period with 1:42 left to play in the first half on a Paxton Mealer bucket before the Eagles scored the final six points and led 31-9 at the half.
Jon Hightower and Bell scored the lone field goals in the third quarter for the Rockets, who trailed 40-13, entering the final six minutes.
Tristan Goad made two free throws to begin the stanza for the Rockets before the Eagles scored four straight to make it a 45-15 contest.
Josh Doud made one-of-two from the free throw line for FMS and the Rockets’ final basket of the game came on a 3-pointer by Isaac Cruse as the Eagles cruised to the 28-point win.
The Rockets (2-4, 0-2) will be back on the hardcourt when they host Liberty on Monday at Chapel Hill.
