Marshall County Mayor Mike Keny joined the Robert Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to sign a proclamation recognizing Constitution Week in Marshall County.
Tuesday, Sept. 17, marks the observance of Constitution Day and the week-long observance runs through Sept. 23.
The DAR began honoring the founding document in 1955, leading President Dwight Eisenhower to sign the observance into law in 1956.
The goals of Constitution Week are to encourage an understanding of the events leading to the drafting of the Constitution, to educate citizens on the foundational importance of the document in American life, and to encourage the responsibility to protect and defend the ideals that it represents.
