Thefts and vandalism reported
* Between 8 p.m. Dec. 14 and 3 p.m. Dec. 15, someone pried open the back door of a shop on North Ellington Parkway and took items worth a total of $5,871. These included an AC Delco floor jack, a Honda pressure washer, an HP desktop computer, a Little Giant ladder, a Craftsman tool box, numerous hand tools, a Dewalt high-speed buffer, five gallons of tire dressing, a Vizio 10-inch tablet, an Xtreme Max speaker, an 18-inch Stihl chain saw, a Cannon Power Shot camera, and a 42-inch Vizio plasma TV. Also, a power washer was damaged.
* On Dec. 14, a short-wheelbase GMC truck ran into two mailboxes on Thick Road, Chapel Hill. A brick mailbox worth $1,200 was destroyed and a metal-pole mailbox worth $200 was knocked down. Residents heard the impact, according to Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Drew Binkley, and saw the truck driving away.
* Between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13, someone took two hubcaps with Buick emblems and scratched the trunk of a car while it was parked at the owner's home on Bark Street. Total value of repairing the car and replacing the hubcaps was estimated at $440.
* Between noon and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 10, someone pulled a rear window out of its track at a home on Cummings Circle, and when the homeowner touched it, the window fell on the ground. Cost of replacing the window was estimated at $250.
* Between 5 and 7 p.m. Dec. 12, a young Lewisburg man lost his wallet while he was at Old Connelly School. The black leather wallet with skulls on both sides contained $20 cash, an Elite debit card, an Ascend Federal Credit Union savings account card, and a Tennessee identification card.
* Over the weekend of Dec. 7-8, someone stole three tires, three batteries, and a car wheel from a shop on Darnell Mealer Road. The owner found the missing items at Commerce Metals on Dec. 12, and gave police the name of the man who sold them there.
* On Dec. 15 a Petersburg man had $23.88 worth of groceries stolen from the bed of his truck while he was shopping at Kroger.
* On Dec. 15, police were called to the parking lot of a business on West Commerce Street because an employee found a plastic bag with what appeared to be drugs in it. In the bag were a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a while powder believed to be cocaine, 18 Xanax pills, four oxycodone pills, and a "green powdery substance that may have been crushed pills," according to the report by Lewisburg Police Officer James Repasky. The bag and its contents were placed in the evidence locker at the police department.
* On Dec. 14, Marshall County Sheriff's deputies were called to a mobile home on Pickle Road, Culleoka, because it appeared someone had attempted to set the home on fire from the inside. The fire seemed to have started in a couch, and had extinguished itself, reported Deputy Larry Hardin.
