The Chapel Hill Elementary Tournament began in Spring of 1962, later becoming the World Tournament in the 1970s.
The postseason turned preseason contest gained the title of World Tournament because of its popularity and world-class referees.
Not to mention, an excellent hospitality room stocked with special dishes and desserts from faculty and parents.
For many years, this included Babe Hardison’s delicious fried fish served on championship night.
Over the years, several neighboring communities have participated, such as Belfast, Cornersville, College Grove, Community, Cascade, Culleoka, Eagleville, Huntland, Lewisburg, Liberty, Moore County, Page, Petersburg, Rockvale, Santa Fe, and Westwood.
Sixty years later the World Tournament remains a beloved annual event.
This year both the Westwood Rockets and Lady Rockets took home the championship trophy.
