From Staff Reports
The lack of school days missed due to inclement weather has resulted in a change to the Marshall County School System's calendar.
Monday, May 20, is now the last full day students will attend classes for the 2012-2013 school year.
Schools Director Jackie Abernathy's request to the State Department of Education to use May 21 and 22 as professional development days has been granted. Therefore, during those two days teachers will be studying test scores, preparing for standards implementation, and performing other activities approved by the state.
While May 20 is the last full day, Thursday, May 23, remains a 9:30 a.m. abbreviated day for the students, during which they can pick up their report cards. Buses will not run on this day.
High school graduation dates are as follows: Cornersville, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23; Marshall County High School, 7 p.m. Friday, May 24; and Forrest, 9 a.m. Saturday, May 25.
The valedictorians and salutatorians of all three high schools will be honored at a reception at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13, immediately preceding the School Board meeting at Central Office. Ashley Beard of Cornersville, who has achieved perfect attendance through 13 years of education, will also be honored at this time.
