The Tennessee State Forester has announced that, beginning Monday, Sept. 23, permits will be required for outdoor, open-air burning.
Normally permits are required from Oct. 15 through May 15 but dry conditions across the state have resulted in moving the permit period forward as a precaution.
Permit information can be found online at www.BurnSafeTN.org. A permit for a pile smaller than 8 by 8 feet can be obtained online. Larger burns require a call to the local forestry burn permit phone number during business hours.
Burning without a permit is a misdemeanor.
Burning within Lewisburg city limits is still prohibited under Lewisburg Fire Department’s statement last week that they will not be issuing permits until further notice due to the extended dry period.
