After clinching the regular season Babe Ruth League title in the first game of a twin bill Monday night, the Farm Center had nothing to play for but pride and it shined brightly as the Chapel Hill squad blasted Nichirin 16-1 in the three-inning run-rule nightcap.
Dustin Brashear had a monster final game for the Farm Center, going 2-for-3 at the plate with six RBI and a pair of homeruns, including a grand slam in an 11-run second inning.
Winning pitcher
Brashear also picked up the win on the hill as he pitched the first inning of a combined no-hitter, followed by Jackson Coward in the second and Blaize Sweeney in the third.
Brashear set down Nichirin 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning before the Farm Center went to work at the dish, scoring five runs on nine hits off Nichirin starter Carson Stacey.
Ethan Mealer and Allante Watts had RBI singles and Blaize Sweeney, Jarvis Lyttle and Luke Terry came up with run scoring triples in the frame.
Carson Stacey and Reagan Walker drew walks in the top of the second inning, but could not get a run in as the frame ended on a put-out at home plate.
Going wild
In the home half of the second inning, the Farm Center went ballistic at the dish, sending 15 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs with the big blow coming on Brashear's grand slam homerun deep over the center field fence.
Thomas J. Beardsley walked to lead off the bottom of the inning for Nichirin and Kolton Fitch walked with one down, putting runners on first and second.
Cameron Burrow hit a ground ball to third base where Jackson Coward stepped on the bag for the first out, but his throw to get Burrow on the double play arrived just late, keeping the game alive.
Hunter Haurez walked to load the bases and Joseph Freeland was hit by a pitch, scoring Fitch before Sweeney whiffed the next batter to end the game.
