The District 8 Cal Ripken 12U Baseball Tournament opened up Thursday night at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in Lewisburg and after Lawrenceburg run-ruled South Williamson 14-1 in the first game, Giles County easily handled Marshall County 9-1 in the nightcap, dispatching the hosts to the loser's bracket.

The District 8 Cal Ripken 12U Baseball Tournament opened up Thursday night at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in Lewisburg and after Lawrenceburg run-ruled South Williamson 14-1 in the first game, Giles County easily handled Marshall County 9-1 in the nightcap, dispatching the hosts to the loser's bracket.
Giles County banged out 12 hits in the contest, including first inning two-run dingers by Bryce Wallace and Grey Wiser.
Three-hitter
The hometown boys managed just three hits in the game off a pair of Giles County hurlers as Colton Barber went 2-3 with an RBI, while Cameron Burrows had one hit, stole a base, and scored Marshall County's lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Starting pitcher Tyler Duke tossed three innings of no-hit ball, while striking out four to pick up the win for Giles County.
Skylar Tarpley finished the job on the hill for visitors, allowing one run on three hits, while issuing one base on balls and whiffing four Marshall County batters.
Pitchers
Joseph Freeland started on the mound for Marshall County, settling down after the tough opening inning to last through three and a third innings before Barber came on to finish out the contest.
Wiser led the Giles County offense with three hits in four at bats and scored twice and drove home two runs.
Tarpley (2-4, RS, 2SB) and Dylan Carmon (2-4, HR, RBI) had two hits apiece, while Wallace (1-1, HR, 2RBIs, BB, IW, RS, SB), Tyress Coffey (1-4, 2RS, RBI), and Seth Walters (1-3, RS) all had a single base knock for Pulaski.
