After losing an uncharacteristic 13-0 run-rule loss in the semifinals of the District 11A Tournament to Columbia Academy on Wednesday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs found themselves in the loser’s bracket against an old familiar foe.
For the fifth time during the 2017 season, the Lady Bulldogs (14-8) faced Richland, and despite beating the Raiders (9-12) by a combined score of 43-13 the previous four meetings, tensions were high as the loser would go home for the year and the winner would be guaranteed a spot in the region semifinals.
The Raiders were able to hold the Lady 'Dawgs to just three runs over the first two innings before Cornersville exploded for nine runs in the third and ultimately taking a 13-0 win in five innings.

The Forrest Lady Rockets completed a clean sweep of the District 9A Tournament Thursday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill with the final stroke coming on a two-run, walk off homerun by Carson Warner that capped off an 11-0 five-inning, run-rule win over Community.
“It took us a while to get adjusted because we had been geared up for faster pitching and they brought in a pitcher that was a little slower and it always takes us a little while to get adjusted, so once we settled in and got a little more patient we got the job done,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “I’m really proud of Carson for getting that homerun to end the game, that was very exciting and I’m very happy for her.”

Heading into the Region 6A semifinals Monday night at Loretto, there wasn't a baseball fan in the state of Tennessee outside of Cornersville that thought the Bulldogs would be able to play with the Mustangs, much less take the win.
The number one ranked Mustangs headed into the game riding a 22-game winning streak with losses to 4A Wilson (AL), defending AA state champion Spring Hill, and perennial 1A power Summertown, while featuring a lineup that included three Division I college commitments.

Good teams don’t need any help. District 12A champ Summertown (31-7) bounced the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (14-9) from the playoffs for the second straight year, as the Lady Eagles capitalized on six CHS errors to roll to a 15-0 home victory in four innings on Monday night in the first round of the Region 6A tournament.
“Errors will kill you,” said Cornersville coach Eric Crabtree. “You cannot win making errors and tonight we made our fair share.”
Coming off a Class A State Tournament appearance last year, Summertown showed they have the offensive firepower to make another deep post-season run and pounded out 13 hits against two Lady Bulldog pitchers.

The Forrest Lady Rockets, behind a one-hit complete game in the circle by senior Samantha King, advanced to their sixth Region 5A championship game in a row with an 8-1 win over Houston County Monday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill.
“I am happy with the win, but we left too many runners stranded and we did not get the job done hitting behind our runners when they pulled that right fielder over,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “I want us to execute things better and the more you move forward, the more important it is to do those things.”
The two-time Class A state champion Lady Rockets have been to the region championship game 13 out of the last 15 seasons and have an 8-5 record in the title tilts.

Ethan Mealer did not allow a hit for five innings before the sophomore hurler’s no-hit bid was spoiled by a sixth inning leadoff slow roller in Forrest’s 10-0 six inning, run-rule win over Jo Byrns Monday night at Chapel Hill in a Region 5A Tournament semifinal.
“I never expected to get the run-rule,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “We didn’t know a whole lot about Jo Byrns coming in, but obviously they were playing in the region semifinal so they had to be good.”

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs started off the post-season with a bang, beating longtime rival Richland 17-2 in just three innings behind the pitching and batting of senior Kirsten Young, who gave up just three hits on the mound and drove in four runs at the plate to advance to the second round of the tournament.
Cornersville ran up against an old foe on Wednesday as the Lady Bulldogs took on Columbia Academy with the chance to advance to the championship in 11A.
Despite losing to CA by just one run in the first meeting and four runs in the final regular season meeting, the contest belonged to the private school from Maury County as the Bulldogs run-ruled Cornersville by a 10-0 final in just five innings at Mt. Pleasant.

The Marshall County Tigerettes faced a do-or-die situation at Giles County Tuesday night in a District 12AA Tournament loser’s bracket game and it went down to the wire as the Lady Bobcats eked a 1-0 win to end Lewisburg’s season.
“They (Giles County) have played light’s out defense against us all year,” MCHS coach Heather Denton said. “I feel like we never get a lucky play in the game---they get diving catches on line drives, ankle catches, so I knew we would have to hit and to win the ballgame and we didn’t.”
Marlee Woodward fought like a warrior in the circle for the Tigerettes, giving up one earned and four hits, while striking out one and walking none in the complete game effort.

The Bulldogs faced a win or go home situation on Monday night with a game against Grace Christian-Franklin, a team the Bulldogs fell to twice during the regular season by a combined four runs.
The Bulldogs roared back from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead into the seventh before escaping with a 7-5 nail biter to advance to the final round of the loser's bracket versus Richland for a chance to play in the championship.
"We were leaving guys on early," Bulldog coach Ben Putnam said. "We were getting guys on all night long but leaving them on. We finally found some ways to get them in. Wasn't always how you draw it up, but we were able to scratch them across and that was the difference in the game."

For the second day in a row the Cornersville Bulldogs (18-14) stared elimination in the face and refused to hang up their cleats for the season with a loser's bracket final against Richland (20-10-1) on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs fell behind 3-2 in the third inning, but came alive to score eight runs over the next three innings to take out a Raider squad 10-5 that had beaten Cornersville by four combined runs in the two regular season contests.

It’s very hard to beat a close rival four times in a row, but four-out-of-five over Eagleville did the trick for the Forrest Rockets, who lost the first winner’s bracket game 11-10 to the Eagles before coming away with a tough 6-3 late night win over the Rutherford county squad to claim their third straight District 9A Tournament title Wednesday night at Chapel Hill...

After a two-day washout, the Forrest Rockets finally took the field at Chapel Hill in the District 9A Tournament opener on Saturday and the offense came alive, exploding in a 13-1, five-inning run-rule win over Huntland.
Forrest assistant coach Andy Burkett notched his first varsity win because the Rockets played the game without head coach Bart Joyce, who was absent tending to his newborn son Tucker Lee Joyce.
