The Cornersville Bulldogs, seeking their first win of the 2019 season, invaded Eagleville for a matchup with the 2A Eagles. The Bulldogs showed improvement on defense, but sputtered on offense with four fumbles – two returned for scores and fell to the Eagles 27-15. “They are a well-coached team that plays hard,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said before the game. “They have a really good player in Trevor Griffin. Both teams combined for 43 first half points before the Rockets’ defense pitched a second half shutout. “It was an awesome win for us, it was a great team win,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. “We came out after the second half down a little bit, but the fourth quarter we got two big scores and shut them out and that was huge.” more
Despite the two schools being separated by just 26 miles, Lincoln County (0-2) traveled to Marshall County (2-0) for the first time in 40 years on Friday night. And despite the dormancy between the last time the two teams met, the Falcons arrived to a jam packed Preston Hopkins Field for the Tigers home opener and emotions were high as the Marshall County players wanted to win one for their coach against his alma mater and the entire home side showed out as the Tigers honored special teams coach Tony Johnson, who passed away from a longtime illness shortly before the season got started. more

The main characteristic that Marshall County coach Thomas Osteen's most successful teams all have in common is the ability to excel in the three main areas of the game-- offense, defense, and special teams. If last Fridays 41-7 thrashing of Columbia Academy (0-1) is any indication, the 2019 season could be one to remember as the Tigers dominated the Bulldogs in all three aspects. The Tigers finished the contest with 308 yards on offense while holding Columbia Academy to 167 total yards, including a dismal 15 yards in the passing game. "Our game plan going into CA was getting the ball to the secondary," Tiger quarterback Bryson Hammons, who tossed 131 passing yards and a score, said. "When our guys get the ball and have field to use, we've got a great chance of beating the opponents with speed." more

The Cornersville Bulldogs went through some growing pains Friday night in the season opener at Frog Bottom, losing 20-17 to the Community Vikings. “We got punched in the mouth and waited too late, we waited too late,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “Mistakes cost us turning the ball over, not executing on offense, and giving up some big third and fourth downs is a recipe for a loss. We have to find a way to fix this on Monday.” Cornersville had won the four previous meetings with Unionville and is coming off back-to-back runner up finishes in the Class A Blue Cross Bowl, but lost 17 seniors to graduation. more
From the outside looking in, the 2018 season for the Marshall County Tigers football team was a step back from the success the team has become known for after making three straight trips to the 4A state semifinals. But a closer look at the season finds evidence the 2018 team was right on track for another above average regular season and deep postseason run if not for a few key injuries and unlucky bounces here and there. more
If 2017 was the Bulldog's Cinderella season and 2018 was Cornersville's season of destiny, then the 2019 season will be the season of longevity-- meaning this will be the season where Bulldog fans find out whether the success of the past two campaigns were due to an unreal, once in a lifetime talented senior class or if fifth-year coach Gerard Randolph has built this model into a model of sustainability. more
After two tumultuous seasons that included a sudden head coaching change and a 9-13 record, plus a pair of first round road playoff losses at Waverly, the Forrest Rockets have circled the wagons and come together as a unit in preparation for the upcoming season. “We are looking forward to get ready to play football again, the past couple of seasons has not been traditional Rocket football,” second year head coach Eli Stephenson said. “We have to get back to playing basic hardnosed football and playing with class, pride, and tradition and that is what we have to get back to and I’m looking forward to that.” more
