It was comeback night for the Marshall County All-Stars Thursday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Field in Lewisburg as they overcame an early 5-0 deficit to win 8-7 over Greeneville in the second pool game for the host squad in the 13-15 year old Babe Ruth Southeast Region Tournament.

The comeback win secured a spot for Marshall County in Saturday’s Single-Elimination Championship Bracket Round.

There were heroes aplenty for Marshall County with Grayson Miller leading the way with a 3-for-4 night at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, plus two spectacular catches in left field.

Caleb McElhaney continued his hot hitting with two hits in four at bats and four RBIs, including the game-tying three-run double in the top of the sixth inning.

And lefty Davin Miles came on in relief on the mound in the bottom of third inning and tossed 4.2 innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win and Miles also reached on a seventh inning error that plated the winning run.

Tristan Griggs relived Miles with nobody on base and two outs in the bottom of the seventh and came up with the game ending strikeout.

Greeneville starting pitcher Harrison Gray set down the Marshall County 1-2-3 in the first inning before the East Tennessee state champions shocked the host team with a five-run bottom of the inning as they sent 11 batters to the frame in the stanza.

Cole May had a two-run single, Gray Alston and Colin Sayers had run scoring base hits while Turner Fagundus worked a bases loaded RBI base on balls in the big inning for Greeneville.

Marshall County got on the board in the top of the second on a Miller RBI double before Gray got out of further trouble with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

May walked with one out in the bottom of the inning when Miller made a diving catch in left field and threw a rocket to John Morgan Thomas at first base to complete the inning ending double play.

The defensive play sparked the squad as they scored three times in the top of the third inning as McElhaney, Miller, and Shane Hay all drove home one run for Marshall County to slice the deficit to one run at 5-4.

Miles had little trouble in the home half of the inning and Percy Edwards came on in relief for Greeneville in the top of the fourth and struck out the side in order.

A two-out error by Marshall County allowed two runs to score in the home half of the fourth as Greenville extended its lead to 7-4.

There was no scoring in the fifth inning and Marshall County came all the way back in the top of the sixth as Miles led off with a bunt single and went to second base on a passed ball before Trey Warner worked a walk.

After a strikeout, Griggs reached on an infield error to load the bases when McElhaney roped a double down the left field line that cleared the bases and tied the game at 7-7.

Spencer came to mound and retired the next two Marshall County batters.

Miles gave up a two-out base on balls in the bottom of the sixth, but a ground ball to Hay at third base sent the game to the top of the seventh inning.

Miller drilled a leadoff double and went to third on a balk before Spencer got a strikeout.

Miles stepped up to the plate and hit a hot shot to second base that was misplayed and Miller came home with the go-ahead run.

Hay handled another grounder at third for out number one in the bottom of the seventh and Miles got out number two on nasty curve ball for a strikeout looking before Griggs came on and he came back from a 3-0 count with three consecutive strikes to end the game and secure a spot in the semifinals for the host team.
