The month long heat wave that has encompassed Middle Tennessee let up just a bit on Monday, much to the delight of the 46 high school golfers that participated in the District 11A-AA Tournament at the Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park. “It was a fantastic day from a weather perspective and a nice break from the overbearing heat we've been experiencing throughout the course of the month of September,” said Forrest coach and tournament director Andy Burkett. “I think the scores yesterday really reflected the nice weather, and I'm glad all players were able to take advantage of that.” more
The Marshall County-Maplewood rivalry has so far been a short but extremely competitive series, beginning with a 34-33 triple overtime thriller win by the Tigers in Week 9 of the magical 2015 season. Coming into Friday's matchup in Nashville, the Tigers (4-1, 2-0) held a 4-1 series advantage over the Panthers (1-4, 1-1) since 2015 and the 2019 game would prove no different as Maplewood held a 14-10 lead at halftime before Marshall County came out of the break on fire with a 19-0 third quarter en-route to a 35-20 win. more
The Tigers (2-1, 1-1) of Mt. Pleasant High School invaded Frog Bottom on a comfortable late summer evening to face the Cornersville Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) in a vital Region 5A battle. The Bulldogs, trying to push their winning streak to three games, showed a balanced offense and a stifling defense that shut down the Tigers 20-0. Cornersville rushed for 144 yards on 34 attempts and QB Jackson Farler completed 11-of-14 throws for 161 yards and one touchdown. more
Forrest entertained Loretto in Friday night’s Homecoming game at the Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field in Chapel Hill where the Rockets easily took care of business in the Region 5-AA contest via a 41-7 blowout win over the Mustangs to remain undefeated on the season. “It’s always great to get a Homecoming win, we came out ready to play and they didn’t let anything distract them,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. “Homecoming week is always hectic around here, they came out focused, they are a mature team and they knew what to do.” more

The LMS Tigers (4-1) took on the Dickson County Middle School Dragons (3-2) for Homecoming Thursday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. On a sun-splashed early evening, LMS Homecoming Queen Mallory Hardison and her Court preceded a hard-fought game that the saw the Tigers fall behind early before playing catch-up, but in the end they could not overcome and fell to the Dragons 34-20. more
Those middle school boys from Cornersville must have had a good night’s sleep after spending much of the day in the hot sun celebrating Homecoming before coming away with a wild 28-26 comeback win over Moore County Thursday night at Frog Bottom. The Bulldogs never attempted a pass in the contest, rushing the ball 35 times for 249 yards with Ben Franklin leading way with 178 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns while averaging 10.5 yards per rush. more
When most Tiger fans think of a big rivalry game, Giles County will most often come to mind. But for at least the past two decades and possibly longer, Shelbyville Central has been a regular on the Tigers schedule with each team going through winning and losing streaks to one another. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs hosted an old foe Friday night for Homecoming at Frog Bottom as they entertained the Grace Christian Academy Lions, who moved to Division II this season after spending its first four years in the same region as Cornersville. The two squads put up over 300 total yards each, but the Cornersville defense, gaining confidence with each game, bent but did not break and the Bulldogs rolled to a 50-13 victory. more
The Forrest Rockets travelled to Lynchburg Friday night where they picked up their third road win of the season, pounding Moore County 35-14 at Doug Price Field. “They are a physical team, they play hard, they don’t have very many players, but they play hard from the first whistle to the last and that says a lot to coach (Jason) Dobbs, who is doing a good over here with his program and it is great to get this rivalry back going,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. more

The Cornersville faithful made the trek into Jack Daniels country at Lynchburg Friday night to the Moore County High School campus where the Bulldogs faced the Raiders. It was the opening game of Region 4A competition for both teams that saw the Bulldog defense stand tall, allowing just one Moore County touchdown in the game. Cornersville only scored one touchdown also, but a Jackson Williams 41-yard field goal with six seconds left in the game enabled the Dawgs to take down the Raiders 10-7. more
The Marshall County Tigers played in a rare Thursday night contest at Tullahoma and the change did not bother them in the least as they destroyed the Wildcats 30-6 to exact some revenge from a pair of losses last season to Tullahoma, including a season-ending playoff loss. “We had to do stuff quicker this week, we didn’t quite get as many reps as we are used to in practice, so hats off to the kids for absorbing the game plan when we had less time to put it in,” MCHS coach Thomas Osteen said. “By no means did we play perfect, but I feel we controlled all three phases of the game tonight.” more
The resurgent Forrest Rockets travelled to Eagleville Friday night to take on a longtime foe and they turned in a dominating performance via a 28-7 win to move to 3-0 on the season. The Rockets, who made an appearance this week in the Associated Press’ Top 10 Poll at number nine, outgained Eagleville 387-to-182 in total yardage. Forrest pounded the rock, rushing for 332 yards in the contest as they came in with a rough and tumble approach to start the game and never let up. more
