The Cornersville faithful made the trek into Jack Daniels country at Lynchburg Friday night to the Moore County High School campus where the Bulldogs faced the Raiders.
It was the opening game of Region 4A competition for both teams that saw the Bulldog defense stand tall, allowing just one Moore County touchdown in the game.
Cornersville only scored one touchdown also, but a Jackson Williams 41-yard field goal with six seconds left in the game enabled the Dawgs to take down the Raiders 10-7.

The offense rode the strong left arm of quarterback Jackson Farlar, who slung the rock to multiple receivers in the second half.
With the sun sinking low, the Raiders won the toss and deferred to the second half as Cornersville took the opening kickoff.
Alex Hillard fielded the ball at the 25 yard-line and slashed his way to the Moore County 40-yard line, but a block in the back penalty moved the ball back and Cornersville started play from their own 40-yard line.
After two short runs, the Dawgs faced a third-and-one on the Bulldogs' 49-yard line before a Farlar quarterback sneak picked up three yards and a first down.
The Moore County defense stiffened for the run and following an incomplete pass and a short completion for no gain, the Bulldogs were faced with a fourth down at the 44-yard line.
Cameron Estes punted the ball end-over-end and it rolled through the end zone for a touchback.
Moore County took over at the 20-yard line where the Bulldog defense now had their chance to hunker down and shine.
An incomplete pass, a short run by Raiders’ QB Brayden Cashion, and one-yard run by Kyle Parker forced a Raiders' punt from the Moore County 26-yard line.
A bad snap from center went over the head of kicker Bryson Dobbs and the Bulldogs pounced on him at the 15-yard line.
The Dawgs were in business and on first down an offside penalty against MC moved the ball to the 10-yard line.
A first down carry by Brady Calahan moved the ball to the five, but a Moore County defender stripped him of the ball and Kyler Parker recovered at the Raiders’ six-yard line.
The Raiders moved the ball on an 11-play drive to the Bulldog 49-yard line as the first quarter ended with no scoring.
Fine defensive play from Rhett Woodard and Tilden Jackson made the going tough for the Raiders and forced another Dobbs punt.
The Bulldogs took over on their own 13-yard line, but after Calahan ran for 17 yards the drive stalled and the Bulldogs were forced to punt.
Cameron Estes’ punt was tipped and the ball traveled only seven yards.
The Raiders could do little as the Bulldog defense stiffened and Dobbs was forced to punt again with the ball going into the end zone.
The Bulldogs began a 13-play drive featuring tough runs by Calahan, Farlar, and Cason Warner that moved the ball to the Moore County 25-yard line, but on fourth and three Calahan was stopped and MC took over with 1:36 left in the first half.
MC drove to midfield and punted, but Cornersville could not move the ball as time ran out in the scoreless game.
Moore County received the second half kickoff and Parker ran the ball to the Cornersville 40-yard line and then to the Bulldog 25-yard line where the drive stalled and Dobbs punted once again.
The Bulldogs and Raiders exchanged short drives with both defenses bending, but not breaking in the third quarter.
The one telling play for Cornersville in the third quarter was a 38-yard pass play from Farlar to tight end Eli Welch.
Farlar’s strikes with the football would be felt in the fourth quarter by the Raiders.
Warner, Calahan and Farlar pounded the rock with hard running through holes opened by the offensive line, bulldozing the defensive line of Moore County as the third quarter ended with zeroes still on the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs started the fourth quarter deep in Raider territory at the 16-yard line when Farlar’s third down pass was intercepted by Parker.
Moore County began its next drive from their own four-yard line and defensive stops by Devon Massengill, Estes, and Woodard forced a punt.
Dobbs sailed the ball to midfield and Brady Calahan ran it back to the Raiders’ 22-yard line.
Calahan and Warner ran the ball to the 14-yard line where Williams was wide-right on a 31-yard field goal attempt.
The Bulldog defense then stopped the Raiders and Dobbs punted again with the Bulldogs taking over at their own 39-yard line.
After a first down run, Farlar found Brady Calahan open down field for a 55-yard gain and a first down at the MC 6-yard line.
Warner then ran it in from there for the touchdown and Williams PAT was good making the score Cornersville 7, Moore County 0 with 4:44 left in the game.
“I couldn’t have done it without the big hole my offensive line gave me,” Warner said. “We’re coming together as a team.”
MC then received the kickoff and started a drive from their own 28-yard line.
Mixing in runs and passes with a 30-yard completion from Cashion to Parker thrown in, the Raiders moved to the Bulldog two-yard line where Parker ran it in for the touchdown and the game tying PAT was good, making it 7-7 with 1:18 left in the contest.
The Raiders kicked off, but the ball went out of bounds at about the 20-yard line and the Bulldogs took advantage of the error with Cornersville taking the ball at their own 35-yard line.
Farlar went to work and completed four consecutive passes to Mitchell, Tanner Edwards, and Brady Calahan as the offense marched to the 48-yard line.
After a Cornersville time out, Farlar found a streaking Mitchell down the left sideline and the wide out raced to the Raiders’ 14-yard line with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
“I was just hoping I threw it far enough and I did,” Farler said. “My teammates made the plays tonight.”
As Cornersville raced the field goal unit onto the field, Moore County took two timeouts to try and ice the kicker.
Williams calmly kicked the ball through the uprights with six seconds showing on the clock, giving the Bulldogs a 10-7 lead.
When asked what he was thinking before he kicked the winning field goal Williams said,” I wasn’t sure what to think, but I knew my line would block and if we got a good hold, I was going to put it through to win the game for us.”
“I put the first one (miss) behind me and went out there and did my thing.”
The Bulldogs kicked off and the Raiders fell on the ball at their own 17-yard line and had one last play.
A pass from Cashion to Mason Pierce went for 30 yards as the jammed pack visitor’s side of Cornersville faithful held their breath, but the Bulldogs dragged him down at midfield.
The game was over, but the clock still showed 5 seconds.
The referees huddled and declared that the game was indeed over as the Bulldogs prevailed 10-7.
“I’m almost at a loss for words, I will say this, the guys fought hard all night, some things went against them and they faced adversity, but they never folded against a very good Moore County team,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “We (coaches) challenged the guys to step up and make plays and they did.”
The Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0) dropped one spot to number nine in the Associated Press’ Top 10 Poll this week while the Raiders (2-1, 0-1) dropped two spots to number eight with the loss.
Cornersville hosts Grace Christian-Franklin (0-3) this Friday at Frog Bottom for Homecoming with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
