On Tuesday at MCHS, Tigerette ace hurler Kalie Hobbs, coming off a strong junior season in 2010, was rewarded for her performance by the Roane State Community College Raiderettes as the gutsy righty signed a Letter of Intent to attend the Harriman school on a softball scholarship next year. "I am just excited to be able to have this over with and know where I am going and further myself and my career in college," said Hobbs. "I have always wanted to play softball in college." more
On Friday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs reeled off their ninth straight win by pounding District foe Hampshire 63-26 at home on Senior night to complete the season sweep of the Lady Hawks. The Hawks then defeated the Bulldogs 54-37 in the nightcap to record their fourth consecutive victory against CHS. more
Spring Hill continued their perfect run through District 12-AA play on Friday night, as the first place Raiders defeated the Marshall County Tigers 72-63 in Lewisburg to complete the sweep of the regular season series. After beating their five previous opponents by an average of 30 points, Spring Hill (21-1, 15-0 District) had trouble shaking the Tigers in Friday's contest, but still held a 30-23 lead at halftime. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes kept themselves in the running for a home game in the first round of the upcoming District 12-AA tournament by beating Spring Hill 58-40 on Friday night to complete the season sweep of the Lady Raiders. Marshall County (10-16, 9-6 District) received some early resistance from the Lady Raiders in Friday's contest, but still held a 23-18 lead at halftime. more
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (2-16) ended their season on a high note when they pulled out a dramatic 33-31 overtime victory over the Riverside Christian Knights at home on Thursday night. RCA had defeated Cornersville 37-33 seven days earlier and held a 26-23 lead late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's contest, but Bulldog guard Ben Proctor drilled a three-pointer in the waning seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime knotted at 26-26. more
The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (12-8) recorded their fifth straight win on Thursday night when they beat the Riverside Christian Lady Knights 28-25 at home in their season finale. Having defeated RCA 23-20 seven days earlier, Cornersville held a 17-9 lead at the end of the third quarter before the Lady Knights sliced the deficit to 19-18 midway through the fourth. more
It was a long night for the Cornersville Bulldogs on Tuesday, as they suffered a 67-31 road loss at the hands of District leader Mt. Pleasant. Ranked 4th in the latest Tennessee Class A state basketball rankings, the Tigers (18-2, 11-0 District) put the game away early and built a 35-12 lead in the first half. Mt. Pleasant then opened up a 60-21 advantage with 7:15 left in the fourth quarter before coasting to the 36-point victory. more
On Tuesday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs extended their current winning streak to eight games by going on the road and defeating District foe Mt. Pleasant 47-41 to complete the season sweep of the Lady Tigers. After taking a 23-14 advantage into the break, the Lady Bulldogs (14-9, 10-1 District) pushed their lead to 13 points on three occasions in the second half, but had to withstand a couple of rally attempts by Mt. Pleasant in order to record their 10th consecutive victory over the Lady Tigers. more
The Marshall County Tigers came away with an important 54-44 win at Fairview Tuesday night to stay in the thick of the District 12-AA race, while the Tigerettes continued to fall back in the standings as they suffered their third straight loss in a close 53-46 defeat to the Lady Yellow Jackets. The Tigers led the entire game, doubling up the Yellow Jackets 12-6 in the first quarter before both squads scored 17 points each in the second period to make it 29-23, Tigers at the half. more
It was erroneously reported that the Rockets needed just one win going into the Fayetteville game Tuesday to clinch the regular season district title, but in fact, Forrest needed to win versus the Tigers and beat Community Friday night in Chapel Hill. The Rockets took care of the first order of business before the Friday night showdown with the Vikings as they trailed 34-27 at the half in Fayetteville before storming back to claim a 69-56 win. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets travelled to Fayetteville Tuesday night to take on the pesky first year Lady Tigers, and after a brief scare, Forrest came away with big 54-35 win. With their second win over Fayetteville this season, Forrest moved to 13-12 on the season and 9-4 in District 9-A regular season play, good enough for the second seed behind first place Moore County. Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean said about garnering the second seed in the upcoming District 9-A Tournament, "We always thought we would be there, some of the coaches may not have thought so, but the girls have done a good job being above where people thought we would be at. They never quit, they expect to win, and that is why they are sitting at 9-4 in the district right now." more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (17-4) claimed their third TMSAA Sectional tournament title in four years by posting three double digit victories at Charlotte Middle School last week. After defeating tournament host Charlotte 47-34 in the first round on Tuesday, the Tigers whipped conference rival Spring Hill 39-26 on Friday in the semifinals before beating Harpeth 46-32 in the championship game on Saturday. more
A foursome of ferocious Marshall County Tiger defenders in Davey Maddox, Quan Greer, Dusty Nance, and Dutch Church all signed letters of intent as part of Wednesday's College Football National Signing Day. Maddox, Greer, and Nance will be headed to Jefferson City to suit up with the Carson-Newman Eagles, while Church will also be headed east to continue his gridiron career for the Tusculum Pioneers. Tiger head coach Tom Turchetta, who was present at the signing at MCHS said about the four moving on to the next level and what it means to the success of the Tiger program. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs captured their fourth straight District 11-A regular season championship on Friday night by defeating the Culleoka Lady Warriors 49-32 at home. In the nightcap, the Warriors received a scare from the Bulldogs, but used a fourth quarter offensive surge to escape with a 43-34 victory. more
After the Forrest Lady Rockets were mangled 59-35 by the Lady Eagles in game one, the fans in Summertown were treated to a Saturday night fight in the wrap-up as the District 9-A leading Forrest Rockets (18-7, 11-1) took on the District 12-A second place Eagles (14-8, 6-2). Playing in the Summertown gym is a tough task, evident by the Eagles' undefeated record at home (10-0) this season, including big wins over Spring Hill, Perry County, Mt. Pleasant, and McEwen. more
The Marshall County Tigers' four-game winning streak against Columbia Central went by the wayside on Saturday night when they dropped a 53-36 decision to the Lions on the road. MCHS (14-7) actually held an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, but saw their offense go into a funk after that point while Columbia (9-14) outscored them 36-18 over the final three periods to claim the 17-point victory. more
Coming off a 48-31 loss to District rival Page the previous evening, the Marshall County Tigerettes (9-15) had their hands full for a second straight night, as the Columbia Central Lady Lions defeated MCHS 57-31 at Hardy Loyd gymnasium to complete the sweep of the season series. Columbia controlled the game from the start and built a 27-17 lead in the first half before outscoring the Tigerettes 30-14 over the final two quarters to record their fourth straight victory over Marshall County. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Friday night when they were defeated 48-31 in Lewisburg by District co-leader Page on Homecoming. Having lost 54-40 to the Lady Patriots earlier in the season, the Tigerettes got off to an extremely slow start and trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before Page (16-3, 10- 1 District) took a 24-13 lead into the break. more
