On Friday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs reeled off their ninth straight win by pounding District foe Hampshire 63-26 at home on Senior night to complete the season sweep of the Lady Hawks.

The Hawks then defeated the Bulldogs 54-37 in the nightcap to record their fourth consecutive victory against CHS.

Lady Bulldogs crush Hampshire, Hawks fly past Bulldogs

On Friday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs reeled off their ninth straight win by pounding District foe Hampshire 63-26 at home on Senior night to complete the season sweep of the Lady Hawks.

The Hawks then defeated the Bulldogs 54-37 in the nightcap to record their fourth consecutive victory against CHS.

Having won the previous 14 meetings against Hampshire, which included a 69-29 triumph on Jan. 10, the Lady Bulldogs (15-9, 11-1 District) put down the hammer early and raced out to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter before going on a 21-8 run in the second period to open up a 44-14 advantage at halftime.

After using a 11-5 spurt in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 55-19, Cornersville outscored the Lady Hawks 8-7 in the fourth to coast to the 37-point triumph.

Aided by their dominant first half performance, the Lady Bulldogs finished with a 23-8 advantage in field goals and held a 3-1 edge in three-pointers while outscoring Hampshire 14-7 at the foul line.

Cornersville senior point guard Makenzie Hopkins reached the 1,000 career point mark by pouring in a game high 20 points and now has 1,001 points in her four years at CHS.

Kaitlyn Rogers followed Hopkins with 11 points, while Martha Jane McMasters, Tiffany Skeen, Brooke Holt, Kaleigh Welch, and Ashley Umbles added eight, six, five, four, and three points points respectively. Ashley Warren, Haley Stacey, and Kelsey Wortham chipped in two points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs as well.

Shelby Voss paced the Lady Hawks (3-20, 0-12 District) with six points, while Bree King, Savannah Kennedy, and Amaya Ashley each had four points.

In the nightcap, Hampshire took advantage of a slow start by the Bulldogs (2-20, 0-12 District) and jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter prior to taking a 22-10 advantage into the break.

The Hawks (12-11, 5-7 District) then stretched their lead to 39-23 by the end of the third quarter before outscoring CHS 15-14 in the fourth period to cap their 17-point victory.

Although the Bulldogs held a 4-3 edge in three-pointers, Hampshire finished with a 22-15 advantage in field goals and outscored Cornersville 7-3 at the free throw line.

Senior guard Danny Gordon led CHS with 13 points, while Hayden McMahon and Zack Smith tallied 10 and nine points respectively. Stone Riner also chipped in five points for the Bulldogs.

Will Boshers paced the Hawks with a game high 22 points, while Fabian Bojorquez and Hayden Lightfoot tallied 15 and seven points respectively.
