My mother used to tell me things always come in threes and old Mom was right again as the Forrest Rockets took it to the limit Tuesday night in East Robertson before losing 57-51 to McEwen in the second round of the Region 5-A Tournament, marking the third year in a row the Rockets have been eliminated by the Warriors.
"The guys played their guts out," said Forrest head coach Wes Hobbs. "I think everybody in the stands can be proud of, I know I am. I told them I would choose them to coach a million times. Both teams played hard and both teams played well."

On Monday in Chapel Hill, the softball pipeline that runs from Columbia State Community College to Marshall County flowed again as Forrest softball staff ace Brooke Herron became the latest player to sign a Letter of Intent to join head coach Johnny Littrell and the Lady Chargers for the 2012-2013 season.
"That pipeline is a beautiful thing," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "Hopefully we will have some more, maybe another one this year and in the future as well. That speaks well for our program that they think that much of us. They have a similar philosophy and our players do well there."

The senior-laden Waverly Tigerettes doubled-up their namesakes from Marshall County 64-32 in the first round of the Region 6-AA Tournament in Humphreys County and showed why they have won three consecutive District 11-AA titles Friday night, displaying a steely brand of experienced basketball that wore down the youthful MCHS squad.
MCHS head coach David Junkins tried to counter Waverly's experience by coming out and trying to hold the ball, but Waverly counter-punched with a pressure defense that led to nine first half turnovers by Lewisburg.
