Marshall County High School senior Brandon Outzen will get a chance to continue his football career in college after signing a letter of intent to play for the Birmingham-Southern Panthers on Friday afternoon at the MCHS library.
A two-time All-District selection, Outzen lined up at tight end for the Tigers as a junior before starting at offensive tackle and defensive end his senior year.
Although he caught just one pass for 12 yards while playing tight end his junior year, Outzen helped pave the way for standout tailback Trevor Irizarry, who broke Marshall County's single season rushing record with 2,038 yards. The Tigers also experienced success as a team during the 2011 campaign, as they finished with a 9-4 record that season en route to advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.

Having experienced a successful six-year run under head coach Holly Cook, the Marshall County Tigerettes softball program will be looking for a new leader after Cook recently decided to resign from the position.
With her husband Elliot being an assistant coach on MCHS' football team, Cook believed she needed to spend more time with her son Eli, who is a year and a half old.
"It's definitely a decision I made for my family," said Cook.. "Ever since Eli was born, it's been a decision that I knew I had to make. I just didn't want to miss any more precious time with him."

It was a rough night for the Marshall County Tigers and their fans, as MCHS lost 9-0 to the Spring Hill Raiders on Wednesday evening in the championship game of the Region 6-AA tournament.
Marshall County (23-8) had won two of the three meetings against Spring Hill (24-8) this season and trailed just 1-0 through the first three innings of Wednesday's contest.
The Raiders, however, opened the floodgates shortly after that point and pushed across eight runs over the next three frames en route to claiming their third straight Region tournament title.

"I said before the game that I hope we would end up with just one more run than they got, but I didn't know how true it would be, getting only one run," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham.

The Forrest Rockets had just one hit off East Robertson starting pitcher Chance Harp in the Region 5-A championship game in Chapel Hill Wednesday night, but were the beneficiaries of a huge game changing error by the Indians that allowed an extension of the pivotal fourth inning in a 3-2 victory.
"This feels pretty good and I think we exceeded everybody's expectation this year, but mine," said Forrest head coach Chris Parker. "I am proud of the boys, we didn't play our best ballgame today, but we did the little things right when we needed to and won."

Two years ago in the Region 5-A semifinal, Houston County handed Forrest a tough 1-0 season-ending loss at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill, causing the Lady Rockets to look at a ball from that game, hanging in or around the dugout all last season, before burying the yellow sphere somewhere under the turf in Chapel Hill after a huge 10-2 win over District 10-A's Jo Byrns in last year's region opener.
On Monday, the Lady Rockets got their full revenge, outscoring the Lady Irish from Erin 9-7 to advance to the Region 5-A championship on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. when they host D9-A foe Moore County, who won a 3-1 thriller at East Robertson.

The Marshall County Tigerettes (22-8) bounced back from Friday's D12-AA Tournament upset loss to East Hickman in a big way on Tuesday, run ruling the Page Lady Patriots 12-2 in five innings at Reese Hambrick Field in Lewisburg.
"It was a do or die type of thing, win or go home and the girls have responded to that," said MCHS head coach Holly Cook. "I told them you have to leave everything out on field where there are no regrets if we win or lose, just leave it all out there and I think they did a good job of that today."

The Forrest Rockets beat Cascade 3-2 Tuesday night in a game that came down to a bitter ending for the Champions, but oh so sweet for Forrest.
"It has not been that long ago since I was in that other dugout," said Forrest head coach Chris Parker. "It's Cascade/Forrest at tournament time, that's all you can say."
Left fielder Austin Harmon saved the day for the Rockets, gunning down the potential tying run at home plate to end the game in the top of the seventh inning, securing Forrest a spot in the District 9-A Chapel Hill bracket final.
