The Elks (5-1, 4-1) maintained sole possession of first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth standings after defeating A-Plus Collision Center 7-5 in six innings on Monday night to record their third straight victory. Having lost to APCC 8-4 in the previous encounter May 23, the Elks built a 7-3 lead through the first five innings of play before staving off a A-Plus Collision Center rally attempt in the top of the sixth to avenge their lone defeat of the season. more
Nichirin (3-3, 3-2) notched their second straight win on Monday night when they defeated Marshall Medical Center 8-0 in five innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. MMC (3-3, 2-3) had defeated Nichirin 8-6 in their previous encounter on May 23, but the defending champs got the better of Marshall Medical Center this time around and built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings of play before crossing home plate four times in the bottom of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into effect. more
Having won their two previous games at the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational, the Middle Tennessee Mudcats improved to 3-0 in pool play by defeating the Marshall County Dusters 4-0 behind a strong performance from starting hurler Logan Hollingsworth. Facing a Marshall County offense that had averaged more seven runs per game in their three previous tournament games, Hollingsworth limited the Dusters (2-2) to just five hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings of work to go along with three strikeouts. more
The Elks suffered their first loss of the 2013 Babe Ruth season when they dropped an 8-4 decision to A-Plus Collision Center on Thursday night in five innings. A-Plus Collision (2-1, 1-1) took control of the contest early and built a 6-1 lead through the first three innings of play. After the Elks (2-1, 1-1) cut the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the fourth, A-Plus responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to open up an 8-4 advantage before the game's time limit expired in the fifth inning. more
Nichirin (1-2, 1-1) saw a potential win slip through their fingers on Thursday night, as Marshall Medical Center (2-1, 1-1) rallied to defeat the defending Marshall County Babe Ruth league champs 8-6 after overcoming a late four-run deficit. MMC trailed 5-1 through the first four innings of play, but crossed home plate seven times over the next two frames to seize a 8-5 lead before hanging on for the two-run victory. more

The Cornersville Bulldogs' first ever State tournament game ended up being a baptism by fire, as CHS lost 13-5 to the Grace Christian Academy Rams in the opening round on Tuesday night at Riverdale High School. Having reached the State tournament each of the last two years, GCA seemed better acclimated to the bright lights of the Spring Fling and forged a 13-2 lead through the first two and half innings of play. The Bulldogs eventually gained their bearings and held the Rams scoreless the rest of the way, but tallied only three runs during that span en route to falling into the loser's bracket. more
After an emotional win in the sectional round over Columbia Academy, the Forrest Lady Rockets came out flat in the first round of the TSSAA Blue Cross Spring Fling on Tuesday and paid the price, losing 4-3 to Whitwell. "They were flat, no doubt about it," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "We dug ourselves a hole, so we have to pick our chin up and come back over here tomorrow like we want to play and execute." more
Forrest's Tyler "Juice" Rumley recently decided to take his sharpshooting kills to Bethel University in McKenzie, signing a Letter of Intent to play basketball for the NAIA Wildcats. "I am extremely happy," said Rumley. "I just want to do the best I can, make sure I keep my grades up to earn my scholarship and develop my basketball as best I can." Rumley came on strong at tournament time in his junior season, earning a District 9-A All-Tournament selection before a stellar senior season for the Rockets. more
On Wednesday morning, the Cornersville Bulldogs proved they belonged on the big stage, as they recorded their first ever win in the Class A State tournament by defeating the Scotts Hill Lions 3-1 at Riverdale High School in the opening round of the loser's bracket. Aided by another strong pitching performance from sophomore hurler David Looney, the Bulldogs (20-15) built a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play before staving off a late comeback attempt by Scotts Hill in the top of the seventh inning to claim their 20th victory of the year. more

The Forrest Lady Rockets could not muster any of their late-season magic versus long-time rival Trinity Christian School (TCA) in Wednesday morning's losers' bracket round of the Blue Cross Spring Fling, falling 11-1 to the Lady Lions in six innings. The loss marked eight wins in 10 games for TCA over Forrest and four times that the Lady Lions have beaten Forrest in an elimination contest. more
It was a big week for Cornersville senior baseball player Zach Richards. Along with helping to lead the Bulldogs to their first ever Class A State tournament appearance, Richards signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Martin Methodist College last Wednesday afternoon in the CHS auditorium. A three-year starter at third base for Cornersville, Richards has provided the Bulldogs with steady play at the hot corner during that span and has evolved into one of the team's leaders. more
Despite a valiant pitching performance from senior hurler Matt Sharp, the Marshall County Tigers saw their season come to an end on Friday afternoon, as they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 road loss to defending Class AA state champ Goodpasture in the Section round of the playoffs. Playing in a steady drizzle for much of the contest, the Tigers (23-9) held a 1-0 lead through the first four and a half innings of play and appeared they might rain on the Cougars' parade. Marshall County, however, was unable to hold off Goodpasture (33-3) down the stretch, as the Cougars tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1 before scratching out another run in the sixth inning to escape with the hard fought victory. more

"The only ones who believed were us as a team and coaches, our parents, and our family here in Chapel Hill and that was about it," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. Although they had to wait an entire year, the Marshall County Tigers (23-7) paid back Montgomery Central on Monday night when they went on the road and defeated the Indians 4-2 in the first round of the Region 6-AA tournament to knock the District 11-AA champs out of the playoffs. After bouncing the Tigers from the playoffs last year in the first round of the Region tourney, Montgomery Central (22-15) battled Marshall County to a 2-2 tie through the first six innings of Monday's contest. more
All of the hard work that Marshall County senior center Marissa Lyttle put in over the last two years paid off in a college scholarship, as she signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Columbia State Community College on Friday afternoon at the MCHS library. After playing sparingly as a sophomore, Lyttle evolved into a viable low post threat for the Tigerettes the last two seasons. As a junior, Lyttle averaged 7.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game en route to receiving the team's Most Improved Player award, while helping Marshall County reach the Region 6-AA tournament. more
