The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (3-3) hopes of repeating as Big South Conference champions were officially dashed on Thursday night when they lost 34-20 on the road to an undefeated Spring Hill General squad. Having blown out Spring Hill twice last year, the Tigers trailed 14-0 at the end of the first quarter before tallying a touchdown and a two-point conversion late in the second period to narrow the gap to 14-8 at the break. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1 District) suffered their second straight loss on Friday night when they were defeated 42-6 on the road by the Mt. Pleasant Tigers. After recovering a Bulldog fumble at the CHS 36, Mt. Pleasant (1-4, 1-1 District) got on the board early in the first quarter when Ken'Yores Smith scored on a four-yard touchdown run. Rodney Harvell then ran in the two-point conversion to give the Tigers an 8-0 lead. more
Forrest Middle School entertained MTCS in Thursday's annual Homecoming contest at "The Rock" in Chapel Hill, but the Rockets could not snap their losing streak as the Cougars handed the hosts a 32-12 loss. FMS has now lost four straight games after starting the season at 3-0 and the Rockets have dropped their last three at home. "Four losses in a row is tough to try and get over," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. "We've had a rough couple weeks with the injury bug and we're fighting through that. We have also played some good competition, but we just haven't played to our full potential and hopefully we can get back on that track next week." more
The Marshall County Tigers (3-2, 2-0 District) got the better of former coach Tom Turchetta on Friday night, as they defeated Turchetta's Spring Hill Raider squad 38-14 on Homecoming to notch their third straight win. MCHS got off to a sluggish start and held just a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers righted the ship in the second period and outscored Spring Hill 17-0 in the stanza to open up a 24-6 advantage at halftime. Marshall County then tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter to push their lead to 38-6 before cruising to their fourth consecutive victory over the Raiders (1-4, 0-2 District). more

The Forrest Rockets, coming off two straight wins in which they scored a combined 68 points, managed just three points versus a tough Eagleville defense that made 10 offensive points stand up Friday night in a 10-7 win in Chapel Hill, marking their fourth consecutive win over the Rockets. "They are a 2A team, so we might see them down the road," said Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "They had beaten us three years in a row and it was going to take a lot of effort to beat them. They are a well-coached football team and we knew it was going to be a struggle." more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs had their three-game winning streak snapped on Monday night when they were defeated 10-2 on the road by a talented Columbia Academy squad, which currently sits in first place in the southern division of the District 11-A-AA standings. Cornersville (3-3-1, 2-2-1 District) hung tough early on and trailed just 3-2 midway through the first half. CA (7-2, 5-0 District), however, simply overwhelmed the Lady Bulldogs after that point, as they tallied four goals in the final 17 minutes of the first half to forge a 7-2 lead before scoring three more times in the second stanza to roll to the lopsided victory. more
After enjoying a successful regular season, the Cornersville golf team saw their 2013 campaign come to an end on Monday, as the Bulldogs finished 10th out of 14 boys teams in the District 11-A-AA tournament, which was held at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, while the Lady Bulldogs came in fifth out of nine girls squads. "I thought we played well overall. It was a learning experience for the girls and the guys. They all worked hard and made a lot of progress this season," said Cornersville coach Jill McMasters. "I'm optimistic about next year because everyone is coming back. If we can make as much improvement next season as we did this season, we'll be in pretty good shape." more
The Marshall County Tigerettes moved into sole possession of first place in the southern division of the District 12-A-AA standings by defeating the Loretto Lady Mustangs 3-1 at home on Tuesday evening. MCHS (6-3-1, 2-0 District) came flying out of the gates and forged a 3-0 lead in the first half before cruising to their sixth victory of the season. more
After a 10-1 loss to Spring Hill in the season opener, head coach Natalie Dennis' young Forrest squad has turned it on, winning four straight games with the latest victory coming in Chapel Hill on Tuesday, via a 10-0 thrashing over Huntland. "We didn't expect this, but we just kind of rolled with it," said Dennis. "We got ahead last week against Marshall County and after halftime we almost got beat, so after that we don't quit anymore." more
Two Forrest golfers qualified for next week's Region 5A/AA Tournament at Champions Run Golf Club in Rockvale with sophomore Gary Lukonen leading the way at the District 9A/AA Tournament with a solid third-place finish, while Caitlyn Burt managed to grab the last at-large spot. Lukonen shot 81 at the Legacy in Springfield and could have come in way lower if some putts would have fallen for the Rocket duffer. more
The Marshall County Tigers goal coming in to the District 12A/AA Golf Tournament at 5,719 yard Lawrenceburg Golf & Country Club was to play well enough to advance to the region and they accomplished their goal, finishing as one of the top three automatic qualifiers. "That was our goal coming in was to advance and take it step by step and we reached that goal," said MCHS coach Robby Giles. "I think the guys are sitting on cloud nine right now. They have been so pumped, so excited about this, they wanted to advance, so I think they will be ready to play next week." more
Playing their fourth game in six days, the Marshall County Tigerettes (5-3-1) ran out of steam on Saturday afternoon when they were defeated 5-0 on the pitch by a talented Community Viqueen squad at home. Community (4-2) controlled the game from start to finish and built a 3-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more goals over the final 40 minutes to cruise to their fourth straight victory over MCHS. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs golf team clinched a winning record on Thursday by defeating Columbia Academy at Stoneybrook Golf Course in their regular season finale. CA had narrowly beaten Cornersville in their previous meeting on Aug. 22, but the Lady Bulldogs (4-3) turned the tables on the Maury County private school on Thursday and posted a season best team score of 95 after taking the two best rounds from each team, while Columbia Academy finished three strokes back with a 98. more
On Thursday evening, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs picked up an important District win on the pitch when they defeated the Richland Lady Raiders 3-0 at home. Richland had beaten Cornersville 2-1 in their previous meeting on Aug. 20 and were sitting in second place in the southern division of the District 11-A-AA standings. The Lady Bulldogs, however, rained on the Lady Raiders' parade on Thursday and built a 2-0 lead in the first half before tacking on another goal early in the second stanza en route to recording their third straight victory. more

Despite playing their starters sparingly, the Cornersville Bulldogs had little trouble disposing of an overmatched Zion Christian Academy squad on Thursday night, as they defeated the Eagles 28-8 at home. Having beaten ZCA 44-12 two weeks earlier, the Bulldogs (3-1) put Thursday's contest out of reach early and built a 22-0 lead in the first half before coasting to the 20-point victory. more
The LMS Tigers, coming off one the most exciting wins in school history last week had to wait out a lightning delay on Homecoming before taking on the Dickson County Dragons, who came away with a hard fought 34-28 victory Thursday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. Caleb Fields put up 173 yards of total offense for LMS with 117 yards rushing on just five carries, one reception for 18 yards, and a huge 38-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Kamron Liggett Hightower had a big game as well, rushing for 96 yards on nine touches, including a pair of touchdown runs. more
After knocking off Moore County the previous week, the Forrest Rockets showed no signs of a letdown on Friday night, as they defeated the Cornersville Bulldogs 45-7 on the road to run their record to 3-1. The last three meetings between the two teams had been tightly contested, but the Rockets overwhelmed Cornersville (2-2) with a barrage of big plays in Friday's contest and built a 38-7 lead in the first half before coasting to the 38-point victory. more

The Marshall County Tigers broke a four-year losing streak versus nearby county rival Columbia Central Friday night, outlasting the third-ranked Lions 35-28 at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. "The defense came through and made some key stops in the second half and did a great job overall," said MCHS head coach Aaron Pitts. "It feels good to beat Columbia. For us it's like a region game, county to county bragging rights, and we are so proud of our players tonight." more
