The Forrest Rockets took several shots on the chin Monday night in Santa Fe, but hung tough the entire contest to claim a bruising 66-50 win. There were 51 fouls whistled in the game and 51 free throws attempted with Forrest going 14-29, while Santa Fe managed only nine makes in 22 tries. "It was a very physical game and it always is coming over here," said Forrest head coach Wes Hobbs. "I am real proud of our post play, we were really able to get it inside and they were putting it up and finishing and they are starting to understand that this opens up the shots, opens up the driving lanes and really gets our offense going." more
Despite stumbling down the stretch, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (5-2, 2-1 District) defeated Mt. Pleasant for the 14th straight time on Tuesday night when they edged the Lady Tigers 54-51 at home. The Lady Bulldogs held 46-31 lead midway through the fourth quarter and appeared to have the game in hand, but were forced to operate without starting center Ashley Umbles and guard Breanne Umbles during crunch time after both players fouled out a short time later. more
After sweeping a dual meet versus Fairview and Creekwood on Thursday to improve to 12-1 on the season, the Forrest Rocket grapplers traveled to Cheatham County on Saturday to test their meddle in their first dual tournament of the year and the Chapel Hill grapplers came away with a split of four matches. "This was the first dual tournament of the year and the kids wrestled hard all day," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "We were forced to move some wrestlers around in different weight classes because of unforeseen circumstances and I was very proud of our guys." more
On Thursday, the Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (11-4) extended their current winning streak to five games when they throttled Elkton 44-18 on Eighth Grade Night to complete the season sweep of the Lady Elks. The Bulldogs (10-5) also captured the season series against Elkton by defeating the Elks 29-23 in the nightcap. Having beaten Elkton 34-22 in their previous encounter on Nov. 4, the Lady Bulldogs took control of Thursday's contest early and built a 18-6 lead in the first quarter on the strength of 11 points from Morgan Terry, four points from Emma Mitchell, and Jordyn Hopkins trey. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs continued their decade long run of dominance over Culleoka on Friday night, as they rolled to a 49-27 victory at home to record their 23rd straight win over the Lady Warriors. Coming off a disappointing performance against Richland earlier in the week, the Bulldogs bounced back by hammering the Warriors 66-32 in the nightcap to pick up their first District victory of the season. more
After transferring to Shelbyville Central High School last year, former Marshall County basketball standout Jameka Braden returned to her old stomping grounds on Friday night when she and her Eaglette teammates defeated the MCHS Tigerettes 61-33 in Lewisburg. The Tigerettes (2-7) appeared they might spoil Braden's homecoming early on and held a 20-19 lead at halftime. Shelbyville (5-5) then put their foot on the gas in the second half and outscored Marshall County 42-13 over the final two quarters to roll to the 28-point victory. more
Despite being without the services of leading scorer Leah Hollingsworth, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (5-5) completed the season sweep of Spring Hill on Thursday night when they defeated the Lady Generals 31-30 at home. Having lost 31-28 in their previous encounter with LMS on Nov. 4, Spring Hill appeared they might even the score against Lewisburg after taking a 21-13 lead into the break, but the Tigerettes seized the momentum in the second half and rallied to grab a 23-21 advantage early in the fourth quarter. more
After pulling out a thrilling 52-49 victory over Meridianville two days earlier, the Lewisburg Tigers won another nail biter on Thursday night when they defeated Spring Hill 43-41 at home to earn a split in the season series with the Generals. Spring Hill had beaten LMS 43-34 in their previous encounter on Nov. 4 and appeared they would get the better of the Tigers again after building a 25-12 lead early in the third quarter. more
On Friday night, the Marshall County Tigers (5-1) reeled off their fourth straight win when they defeated the Shelbyville Golden Eagles 74-60 at home with the help of a dominant third quarter performance. Shelbyville (2-8) kept pace with MCHS early on and held a 31-27 lead at the break, but the Tigers turned on the afterburners at the start of the second half and used a 31-6 run to open up a 58-37 advantage with 6:48 left in the fourth quarter before claiming the 14-point victory. more

After enduring an 18-day layoff, the Cornersville Bulldogs had trouble knocking the rust off on Tuesday evening, as they were unable to overcome a dismal second quarter performance en route to suffering a 55-33 loss at the hands of the Richland Raiders in Lynnville. The Bulldogs actually held an early 5-0 lead thanks to a layup by Tate Lowery and a Brian Lowe three-pointer before Richland (5-4, 2-1 District) rattled off seven straight points to seize a 7-5 advantage late in the first quarter. more

The LMS Tigers (4-4) came out on the short end of a back and forth battle in Lewisburg Monday night, losing 42-35 to Whitthorne. Even though the Tigers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, LMS head coach David Lovell was not happy with the ball club's intensity in the first half. "We started slow because we did not come ready to play; we played with no heart or energy the first half," said Lovell. After trailing 5-3 at the end of the first period, Whitthorne stormed back, chalking up an 8-0 run on LMS with most of the damage coming from the free throw line. more
If the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs hope to capture their sixth straight District 11-A regular season title, they will have to overcome an early deficit in the league standings after suffering a 49-45 road loss to the Richland Lady Raiders in their conference opener. "I was very disappointed with our defense in the second half. We knew our game plan going into the game was to stop the dribble drive, not get beat off the dribble and guard against the three pointers," said FHS head coach Wes Hobbs. "We told the girls before the game that we needed to start strong and finish stronger and I feel like we did that," said LMS head Coach Chris Coleman. "After a sluggish first half offensively, we really picked it up in the second half." more
