After suffering a tough 7-5 loss to Cookeville the previous evening, the Marshall County Stars staved off elimination from the 15-year old Babe Ruth State Tournament by defeating Tullahoma 4-3 in the first round of the losers bracket on Saturday night in Lebanon. Marshall County held a 3-1 lead through the first six innings of play, but Tullahoma battled back in the top of the seventh and plated two runs in the frame to tie the game at 3-3. more

Marshall County appeared to be in control midway through the contest and held a 5-1 lead through the first four innings of play. The Stars, however, faltered down the stretch, as Cookeville scored six runs over the final three frames to drop Marshall County into the loser's bracket. more
The Marshall County Dusters (25-10) completed the sweep of a doubleheader against Giles County on Tuesday night by defeating the Bobcats 8-1 in four innings at Joe George Field in the second game. Aided by a four-run fourth inning, the Dusters finished with nine hits and four walks against two Giles County pitchers. Dunn Crowder did the most damage at the plate for Marshall County and went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBI. Starting pitcher Cameron Isley (1 RBI), Derrick McKnight (1 RBI), and Connor Bush tallied two hits apiece for the Dusters as well, while Lane Whitesell added a hit and a run scored. more
On Tuesday night, the Marshall County Dusters (24-10) squared off against a familiar foe when they defeated the Giles County Bobcats 8-2 at home in the first game of a doubleheader. The two teams were locked in a 2-2 tie through the first three and a half innings of play, but the Dusters saw their bats heat up after that point, as they plated a run in the bottom of the fourth to seize a 3-2 lead before erupting for five runs in the sixth en route to claiming their 24th victory of the season. more
The Middle Tennessee Mudcats' summer season came to close on a low note Tuesday night, losing 13-3 to Spring Hill in the first round of the Middle Tennessee High School Baseball Summer League Tournament. The Mudcats finished with an 11-10-1 record, playing their last five games minus most of the regular starting lineup due to the commencement of football practice at Forrest. On Tuesday, the Mudcats ran into some stellar pitching by Spring Hill's Michael Mackezyk, who tossed five innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win for the Raiders. more
Junior competition helps game Cornersville High School senior Tate Lowery wrapped up a successful season on the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour when he finished in fourth place in his final tournament of the summer at Henry Horton State Park on Tuesday morning. Lowery actually held a one stroke lead going into Tuesday after shooting a 77 in the first round on Monday, but had to settle for fourth place in the two-day event when he carded an 83 in the second round to finish with a total score of 160. more
New Tiger head baseball coach has long history with program After Steve Reese stepped down as the head coach of Marshall County High School's baseball team, MCHS' administration handed the reins of the program over to a loyal member of the Tiger family when they promoted longtime assistant coach Mike Reese to the top spot earlier this summer. Although he did not begin teaching at Marshall County High School and was not officially named an assistant coach at MCHS until 1988, Mike Reese has been associated with the Tigers' baseball program since 1981. more
After losing the first three meetings against the Marshall County Dusters (19-9) this summer, the Columbia Cubs reversed that trend on Wednesday afternoon when they claimed a 6-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Joe George Field. Columbia took control of the game early and built a 6-0 lead through the first four innings of play before coasting to the four-run victory. more
The Marshall County Dusters reached the 20-win mark for the summer season by defeating the Columbia Cubs 6-0 in five innings on Monday night in the second game of a doubleheader at Joe George Field. After scoring just two runs in the first game of the evening, the Dusters (20-9) saw their bats heat up in the second contest and finished with seven hits and two walks against two Columbia hurlers. more
Marshall County Dusters (19-8) by winning the second game 6-2 in five innings on Monday night at Joe George Field. Aided by a strong performance from starting pitcher Sammy Groninger, the Tigers built a 6-0 lead through the first four innings of play before cruising to the four-run victory. Groninger picked up the victory on the mound and yielded just two hits and two walks in four scoreless innings of work to go along with five strikeouts. Alex Just came on in relief of Groninger and yielded two runs in one inning on one hit and two walks. more

Giles County proved to have too much offensive firepower for the Marshall County 11-year old All-Stars, as the Cal Ripken State Tournament hosts rolled to a 13-7 victory in the finals of the consolation bracket on Sunday morning in Pulaski. Having lost 7-5 to Marshall County two weeks earlier in the District tournament, Giles County appeared bent on avenging that setback and bolted out to an 8-1 lead through the first three and a half innings of play. more
Coming off an 8-4 victory over Cookeville earlier in the day, the Marshall County 11-year old All-Stars had to settle for a split in their two pool games at the Cal Ripken State Tournament after losing 9-5 to Maury County in eight innings on Friday night in Pulaski. Marshall County held a 3-1 lead through the first four innings of play, but Maury County pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. more
The Middle Tennessee Mudcats, coming off the dead-period layoff, returned to the diamond in Chapel Hill on Monday in good form, sweeping a doubleheader from Giles County 12-2 and 14-7. The Mudcats (10-8-1) turned in a torrid offensive performance, banging out 30 hits in the double-bubble with Tanner Garvin leading the way, going 5-6 with five RBIs. Garvin also picked up the win on the mound for the Mudcats in the first game, giving up five hits in his three innings of work. more
Despite having to shake off some rust from a two-week layoff, the Marshall County Dusters (19-7) managed to pull out a victory on Monday when they defeated the Ensworth Tigers 8-7 in eight innings at home in the first game of a doubleheader. After the two teams battled to a 5-5 tie through the first seven innings of play, Ensworth scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 7-5 lead. more
After head coach Adrian Wilson departed for Summit earlier this summer, Marshall County High School found a new man to lead the Tiger basketball program when they recently hired veteran coach Arnett Bodenhamer. Having been in the coaching business the last 14 years, Arnett is very familiar with MCHS' tradition of athletic success and believes the basketball program has the potential to reach lofty heights. more
Lawrence County rained on the Marshall County Storm's parade on Friday night, as the Wildcats rolled to an 11-0 victory in six innings at Sam Davis Park in the first round of the 13-year old Babe Ruth District 8 tournament behind a dominant pitching performance from starting hurler Spencer Tidwell. Effectively mixing his curveball with an overpowering fastball, Tidwell kept the Storm off balance at the plate the entire contest and came within one out of recording a perfect game, as he yielded just one hit in six scoreless innings of work while issuing no walks and recording five strikeouts. more
Home field advantage proved to be a nonfactor for the Marshall County Tomahawks, as they lost 6-2 to the South Williamson Red Hawks in their opening game of the 14-year old Babe Ruth District 8 tournament at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. South Williamson grabbed the momentum early and built a 4-0 lead through the first three and a half innings of play. Marshall County plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth to slice the deficit to 4-2, but the Red Hawks held the Tomahawks scoreless the rest of the way while tacking on two insurance runs to advance in the winner's bracket. more
On Saturday night, the Marshall County Tomahawks were eliminated from the 14-year old Babe Ruth District 8 tournament when they dropped an 8-5 decision to Giles County in the second round of the losers bracket at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. After falling into an early 6-1 hole, the Tomahawks battled back and sliced the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning. Giles County, however, managed to keep Marshall County at bay and tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth before relief pitcher Blade Matthews held the Tomahawks scoreless over the final two frames. more
