The FMS Rockets kicked off the prep football season on a high note, travelling to Cascade where they won a spirited 22-14 battle versus their longtime arch rivals. "There is not a better way to start the season," said Forrest head coach Bart Joyce. "Any time you come over to Cascade and get a win with a rival like that it is a great win and a great feeling. I'm proud of all these boys, they worked hard all summer long and it finally paid off tonight." The Rockets won the battle in the trenches, rushing for a tough 154 yards on 35 carries. more
The Marshall County Tigers golf team ran their record to 3-0 on the young season when they defeated the Columbia Central Lions and Giles County Bobcats in a tri-match on Monday afternoon at Hillcrest Country Club in Pulaski. Marshall County had two golfers break 40 on the day and posted a team score of 159 after taking the top four rounds from six golfers. Columbia Central placed second in the match and finished 13 strokes off the pace with a 172, while Giles County came in third with a 185. more
Preventing big plays proved to be a problem for the Cornersville Bulldogs in their first preseason scrimmage, as they dropped a 36-13 decision at home on Friday night to an athletic Fayetteville Tiger squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs last year. The Bulldogs held their own in the first half of the contest and trailed just 16-13 through the first two quarters of play. more
Alex Phelps picked up his first win as the head coach of Marshall County's golf team when the Tigers defeated the Columbia Central Lions in their season opener on Thursday afternoon at Saddle Creek Golf Course. MCHS posted a team score of 170 after taking the top four rounds from six players, while Columbia Central finished with a 185. more
Having posted a 2-1 record in pool play, the Marshall County Dusters (27-13) had to settle for fourth place in the Senior Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament after suffering a pair of losses to the Mobile Rawdogs and Fairfax, Virginia in the double elimination portion of the tournament on Saturday in Andalusia, Alabama. Looking to defend their 2013 Senior Babe Ruth World Series title, the Rawdogs defeated the Dusters 10-0 in five innings en route to eventually claiming the Southeast Regional tournament championship. Marshall County was then ousted from the tournament when they dropped a 9-1 decision to Fairfax later that afternoon. more
After posting a 6-5 record last season and making the playoffs for the first time in three years, the Cornersville Bulldogs began to set their sights on the start of the 2014 football campaign this week when they wore full pads for the first time in practice. Entering his second season as CHS' head coach, John Denton believes that his team has become more comfortable with his practice regimen and has been able to build on last year's progress. more
The Marshall County Dusters advanced to the semifinals of the Senior Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament by finishing second in their pool last week at Andalusia, Alabama. Marshall County lost to Fairfax, Virginia 10-2 in their opening game of the tournament on Wednesday, but bounced back with a 9-5 victory over Startown Optimist, North Carolina on Thursday. The Dusters then wrapped up pool play by defeating tourney host Covington County 7-0 on Friday. more
After posting winning records last year, the Cornersville Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs both started off the 2014 season with a loss when they were defeated by Eagleville on Tuesday afternoon at Champions Run Golf Course. Taking the top four rounds from six players, Eagleville finished with a team score of 181, while the Bulldogs shot a 191 overall. more
Coming off a disappointing 4-7 campaign, the Marshall County Tigers appear to have a more physical tone in practice this year under new head football coach Thomas Osteen when they donned full pads for the first time this season on Monday. Osteen served as an assistant coach at Giles County High School under David O'Connor from 2007-12, and helped the Bobcats achieve an unprecedented run of success on the gridiron. During that span Giles County posted an impressive 64-15 record and captured the 2009 Class 4A State title while reaching the semifinals of the playoffs on two other occasions. more
The Marshall County 12-year old All-Stars ran into the proverbial buzz saw on Thursday afternoon when they were defeated 10-0 in four innings by South Florida state champion Palm Beach Gardens in the Cal Ripken Southeast Regional Tournament at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex. With the loss, Marshall County fell to 0-2 in National League pool play while Palm Beach Gardens improved to 2-0. more
West Raleigh had an inning for the ages on Friday morning, as the Eastern North Carolina state champs clubbed five homeruns and scored 18 runs in the bottom of the first frame en route to crushing Marshall County 19-0 at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in the Cal Ripken 12-Year Old Southeast Regional Tournament. Thanks to Friday's mercy-rule victory, West Raleigh ran their record to 4-0 in National League pool play, while Marshall County fell to 0-3 in the tournament. more
The Marshall County 12U all-stars' Southeast Regional Tournament appearance ended with a 16-1 loss to Semmes, Alabama on Saturday, giving the host squad a disappointing 0-5 record. The Tennessee teams (Bellevue, Marshall County, Martin, and Putnam County) were overmatched by the out of state squads, going a combined 2-18 in pool play with Martin and Bellevue picking up one win apiece. more
The host Marshall County squad and the reigning Tennessee state champion Bellevue Commodores were both trying to come up with their first win of the 12U Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament in Lewisburg on Friday night and in a close battle, Bellevue prevailed 6-1. Besides a first inning two-run shot by Ben Wallace, Marshall County starting hurler Preston Shelton turned in a strong performance on the mound, allowing just two earned runs on five hits, while walking two and whiffing eight batters in five innings of work. more
On Sunday afternoon, West Raleigh, North Carolina capped an undefeated run through the Cal Ripken 12-Year Old Southeast Regional Tournament by pulling out a thrilling 9-8 victory over Winchester, Virginia in Lewisburg. Having won three of the last four Southeast Region championships in their age group, West Raleigh held a 6-3 lead through the first three innings of play, but Winchester came storming back and plated five runs over the next three frames to seize a 8-6 advantage. more

Marshall County fell into a first-inning4-0 hole as Winchester swung some hot bats, while being aided by a couple of fielding mistakes by the host squad. more

On Sunday afternoon, the Marshall County Stars saw their run in the 15-year old Babe Ruth State Tournament come to an end when they suffered a gut wrenching 2-1 loss to Cookeville in the losers bracket finals. Having lost 7-5 to Cookeville earlier in the tournament, the Stars appeared they might even the score in Sunday's contest and held a tenuous 1-0 lead at the end of the sixth inning. more
