Good beginning
Marshall County came up with their only run of the game versus Semmes in the top of the first inning as Preston Shelton, Carson Blackwell, and Tyler Wolaver all reached on fielding errors to start the game.
Semmes came right back in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs without a base hit.
Semmes leadoff hitter T.G. Bell tied the game when he reached on a Marshall County error and eventually stole home on the unsuspecting hosts.
Semmes took advantage of another Marshall County error to take the lead for good in the contest.
In the top of the second inning, Blake Aldridge led off with a single to left field, but was erased on the base paths, trying to steal second.
Big inning
Semmes starting pitcher Tucker Musgrove got the next two Marshall County batters out, and in the bottom of the frame, the Alabama squad sent a dozen batters to the plate and scored eight runs with the big blows coming on a pair of two-run bases loaded singles by T.G. Bell and Trey Turner.
Musgrove gave up a two-out hit to Blackwell in the second inning, but whiffed the final Marshall County batter to send the game to the home portion of the frame.
Once again, Semmes sent 12 batters to the dish and scored six times as Bryant Andrews, Turner, James Flynn, and Musgrove all drove home one each to give Semmes a 16-1 lead, setting up a run-rule scenario if Marshall County could not get back to within a nine-run margin in the top of the fourth inning.
Peyton Bell came to the hill for Semmes and set down the first two Marshall County batters before Aldridge kept the game alive, beating out an infield single.
Final chance
Aldridge stole second and Jake Singleton followed with a base hit, putting Marshall County runners on the corners, but the game ended on a ground ball to shortstop.
Semmes, who banged out 12 hits in the contest, ended up a 2-3 record and did not make the finals.
T.G. Bell (3-4, 3RS, 2RBIs, SB) and Musgrove (3-3, RS, RBI, SB) had three hits apiece for Semmes and Musgrove picked up the win on the hill.
Aldridge (2-2, SB) had a pair of base knocks for Marshall County, while Blackwell, Singleton, and Sam Williams had one single each.
