Lawrence County knocked both Marshall County bowling teams out of the District 8 tournament in the first round on Monday morning, as the Lady Wildcats defeated the Tigerettes 18-9 while the Wildcats thumped a shorthanded Tiger squad 26-1 at Galaxy Lanes in Columbia. Led by Brittany Peters, who finished with the fifth highest scoring average in the District, the Lady Wildcats (6-7) won 11 out of the 18 individual games in the match and received four bonus points for having the highest pin total in two out of the three sets. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (5-9, 3-3 District) snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday night when they defeated the Hampshire Lady Hawks 40-25 at home. Despite getting off to a slow start offensively, the Lady Bulldogs held a 16-10 lead at the end of the first half before outscoring Hampshire 24-15 over the final two quarters to record their 20th straight win over the Lady Hawks (2-13, 1-5 District). more
With senior guard Tate Lowery receiving his first substantial playing time since injuring his left knee four weeks earlier, the Cornersville Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday night when they defeated the Hampshire Hawks 58-45 at home. The Bulldogs (1-10, 1-5 District) led nearly the entire contest and built a 24-16 advantage in the first half before opening up a 45-30 cushion early in the fourth quarter en route to claiming their fifth straight victory over Hampshire (1-14, 1-5 District). more
The Marshall County Tigers continued their winning ways in Tuesday night's District 12 AA opener, coming from behind to beat archrival Giles County 62-49 in Lewisburg. It was quite the postseason tune-up in Lynchburg Thursday night as the FMS Lady Rockets sparred with Moore County the entire game before the Raiderettes prevailed late 32-30 in the regular season finale for both clubs. Three Sydney Hill baskets in the first quarter was all the offense the Lady Rockets could muster, but four points by Moore County's Kynleigh Fanning gave FMS a 6-4 lead after the first six minutes. more

On Saturday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (4-9, 2-3 District) lost to Santa Fe for the first time in six years when they dropped a hard fought 73-67 decision to the Lady Wildcats in overtime at home. After building a 47-36 lead through the first three quarters of play, Santa Fe (9-6, 4-1 District) still held a 58-51 advantage with :58 left in the fourth period, but the Lady Bulldogs made a late charge and closed regulation with a 10-3 run to knot the game at 61-61. more
The Santa Fe Wildcats (7-8, 4-1 District) notched their second straight victory over Cornersville (0-10, 0-5 District) when they defeated the Bulldogs 59-46 at CHS on Saturday afternoon. Aided by a strong second quarter performance, Santa Fe held a 28-18 lead at the end of the first half before opening up a 52-30 advantage early in the fourth period en route to claiming their seventh win of the season. more
The FMS Lady Rockets moved closer to a first-round bye in the upcoming World Tournament, thanks to a convincing 33-21 win at Liberty Monday night. FMS got off the yellow bus to slow start, scoring just once in the first four minutes on a Stevie Ray basket, but the Lady Patriots could not take advantage as the FMS defense put the clamps on the home squad. more
The Lincoln County Lady Falcons (6-8) snapped the Marshall County Tigerettes' modest two-game winning streak on Friday afternoon when they defeated MCHS 53-33 in Lewisburg to sweep the season series. After losing to the Lady Falcons 53-26 in their previous encounter on Dec. 1, the Tigerettes (4-10) gave Lincoln County a tougher tussle this time around and trailed just 32-26 midway through the third quarter. more
Cornersville boys basketball coach Gerard Randolph gave his alma mater a scare for two quarters, but his Bulldog squad was unable to keep pace with Giles County for the entire game, as the Bobcats used a dominant second half performance to defeat CHS 70-36 on Tuesday afternoon at the Richland Christmas Classic. The Lady Bulldogs (4-8), meanwhile, were unable to string together consecutive wins and dropped a 60-46 decision to the Frank Hughes Lady Lions (8-7) earlier in the day. more
Following their impressive first round victory over Franklin, the Marshall County Tigers (8-6) fell into the loser's bracket of the Overton Christmas Tournament when they were defeated 67-48 by the Lighthouse Christian Lions last Monday before bouncing back with a 59-57 win over the Independence Eagles on Tuesday to earn third place in the tourney. "I was pleased with the way we played overall, but I want us to have the mindset that we shouldn't lose another game. I wanted to go 3-0 in the tournament, but I'll take 2-1," said MCHS coach Arnett Bodenhamer. more
After dropping a hard fought 73-66 decision to Giles County the previous day, the Forrest Rockets (6-11) earned a split at the Richland Christmas Classic by defeating the Tullahoma Wildcats 83-74 last Tuesday in Lynnville. The Rockets got off to a fast start offensively and built a 46-36 lead through the first two quarters of play before keeping Tullahoma at bay in the second half to claim their sixth victory of the year. more
After losing to Franklin 50-43 in the opening round of the Overton Christmas Tournament, the Marshall County Tigerettes (4-9) salvaged a fifth place finish in the tourney by defeating the Hume-Fogg Lady Blue Knights 43-29 last Monday before beating the Hillsboro Lady Burros 36-31 on Tuesday. "I was proud of them. After the Franklin game, we corrected some things and the girls played hard the next two games," said Marshall County coach Jerrie Henry. "I think these two wins will give the girls some encouragement and help their confidence going into the second half of the season." more

The FMS Rockets started the New Year where they left off the old, continuing their domination with a 48-41 win at Liberty Monday night that clinched the regular season Duck River Valley Conference title. Forrest (17-4, 17-0) can cap off a perfect regular season conference slate with a win in Lynchburg Thursday night. The Rockets also clinched the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming World Tournament that commences Saturday in Chapel Hill. more

Giles County (4-5) led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter before taking a 43-33 advantage into halftime, but the Rockets rallied to slice the deficit to 66-64 midway through the fourth period. more

Franklin (5-8) appeared to be headed for a relatively easy victory early on after racing out to a 31-14 lead through the first two quarters of play. more
