It was quite the postseason tune-up in Lynchburg Thursday night as the FMS Lady Rockets sparred with Moore County the entire game before the Raiderettes prevailed late 32-30 in the regular season finale for both clubs.

Three Sydney Hill baskets in the first quarter was all the offense the Lady Rockets could muster, but four points by Moore County's Kynleigh Fanning gave FMS a 6-4 lead after the first six minutes.

Fanning scored to open up the second quarter and moments later, Harley Peters converted a field goal, giving Moore County the lead.

Back in lead

Stevie Ray gave FMS a boost, nailing two free throws before knocking down a bucket in the paint, seesawing the lead back to Forrest at 11-8.

Hill and Peters would each score four points apiece over the next few minutes as the Lady Rockets took a 15-13 lead to the locker room.

The third quarter was action packed as both squads kept throwing counter punches with the lead exchanging hands several times, but it was Hill who landed the last blow of the period, giving the Lady Rockets a one-point, 23-22 lead, entering the final six minutes of action.

Ray made it 25-22 with a bucket at the outset of the fourth quarter, but Peters got both points back when she nailed two free throws.

Big 3

Ally Blanton came up huge moments later, draining the only 3-pointer of the game for Forrest.

Moore County dug in and with 2:24 remaining in the contest, a Peters' bucket put the Raiderettes in front 29-28 and Peters followed with one free throw moments later, making it a two-point game.

Ray stepped to the free throw line with 1:05 left in the game, facing a pressure packed one-and-one situation and the eighth grader calmly nailed both charity shots, tying the game at 30-30.

With 10 seconds left on the clock, Moore County's Anna Smith was fouled after grabbing a rebound and she made both shots under pressure to put the Raiderettes back in the lead.

Final effort

FMS managed to get a good shot off as time wound down, but the ball would not go in for the Lady Rockets and the game ended.

Hill led all scorers in the contest with 14 points, while Ray netted 13, and Blanton was the only other Forrest player to score, tallying four points.

Fanning had 13 points to lead the Raiderettes, while Peters had nine, Smith finished with six, and Abi Harvey and Kelli Ray had a deuce apiece.

FMS (8-10) will play Fayetteville (0-18) in Saturday's opening round of the DRVC Tournament in Chapel Hill at 2:15 p.m., while Moore County (8-10) will play Community (15-3) on Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
