County rivals Marshall County High and Forrest School met to open the 2015 girls soccer season Tuesday night. The Lady Rockets were coming off arguably the best season in school history, which included a 7-0 start, while the Tigerettes were trying to snap a losing streak against the Rockets dating to 2009. The Cornersville Bulldogs extended its win streak to 13 games with an opening season 44-0 thrashing over Richland Thursday night at Lynnville. Cornersville dominated the game on both sides of the line of scrimmage, rushing for 284 yards, while holding Richland to just 13 yards of total offense. more
Lewisburg Middle School opened the 2015 football season with a home game against neighboring county rival Witthorne Middle School and came away a hard-fought loss against the Lions 24-6. "It seemed like the entire game we just couldn't gain the momentum but our team kept fighting," Coach Elliot Cook said. "I was proud that our kids didn't give up. We just have to find a way to put on more steam even when things are bad." more
The Forrest Rockets finished up the preseason on a high note with a solid defensive effort by the varsity squad against Giles County and Spring Hill Friday night at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill. "Our objective was to not get anybody hurt and have everybody ready for the big game next Friday night at Huntland and we did that," Forrest coach Matt Kriesky said. more
The Marshall County football team played host to private school powerhouse Pope John Paul II Friday in a jamboree to wind down the preseason and gear up for its season-opener against Franklin County. The visitors finished the varsity portion of the event leading 21-20 before the reserves took over which led to a 48-48 tie. more
Rockets split season's first two matches on road After an opening season win at Spring Hill on Monday, the Forrest golf team continued the road trip, travelling to Champions Run where they were swept by Eagleville. "I'm pleased so far with our first two days, (Tuesday) wasn't as good as yesterday, but overall I think we are doing good," Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. Matt Kriesky wasn't happy with the way Forrest started Friday night's scrimmage at Spring Hill, but a nice comeback gave the Rockets' coach some positive thoughts to take back to Chapel Hill. "I thought we started out slow and that was a reflection of our walk-thru in fourth block and it carried over on the field," he said. "I think once we calmed down and got focused, we moved the ball well, but you can't wait until the second or third quarter to start playing." more
Forrest Middle School opened the season on a high note Monday night, beating Cascade 37-28 behind a strong performance from Nick McClendon, who rushed for 190 yards and four touchdowns at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill. "This feels great. I'm glad to be here at Forrest and it was a great environment here in Chapel Hill tonight, " said first-year Rockets coach Chris Benne. Teamwork shows against Lipscomb After a recruiting violation that was announced this week, Marshall County's football team is moving forward as a unit and it showed Tuesday night at David Lipscomb Academy. "Number one, we were looking for improvement from Friday," Coach Thomas Osteen said. The Forrest Rockets have come a long way in a matter of months, missing some baseball players for spring practice, going through the dead period, and coming back to re-gear before making some big strides in the 7-on-7 drills last week. "I thought we actually ended our spring well and this summer in June and July we have continued to do a lot of football," Forrest head coach Matt Kriesky said. "This week, having the helmet, shoulder pads and girdle on, the team chemistry is starting to gel." more
Nine Marshall County student athletes were recently honored with spring sports all state selections, led by five members of the 2014-2015 Class A state champions Forrest Lady Rockets. Forrest's domination in Class A was evident by five members of the team being selected by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA). more

Grayson Whaley tossed a seven-inning complete game Tuesday for the Elks, who outlasted Marshall Medical center (MMC) 4-3 in the second game of a Marshall County Babe Ruth League double-header. Whaley gave up zero earned runs on six hits, walked three, hit one and struck-out seven MMC batters in the game. more
